Tears streamed down Hunter’s face, his eyes clouded with deep regret.
Just then, two officers stepped up to him.
“Mr. Harrington, you’re suspected of multiple traffic violations, including running red lights. Also, we need your full cooperation for the ongoing investigation involving your wife. Please come with us.”
Hunter was taken into custody after the scandalous video went viral.
I received the news after settling into the postpartum recovery center.
“What are you planning to do next? Hunter’s finished now.”
My friend looked at the wound on my abdomen and felt heartbroken with red eyes.”
“I want a divorce. And I want every single one of them to face the consequences they deserve.”
My gaze dropped to the paternity test report in my hands.
Just as I suspected, we weren’t their biological children.
They had always treated me like I was nothing more than a tool, never once with love. I never understood why until I secretly took the test. Savannah was their real daughter.}
And me? I was just the adopted one, brought in to get close to my real parents‘ wealth.”
That was why they had always used me so cruelly, never treating me like a person, only as something to be used and discarded.
“Things have come this far. Hunter won’t agree to a divorce. Doing so would be admitting to everything he’s done.“>
Llifted my eyes toward the dull gray sky.”
“Whether we divorce or not isn’t up to him. It’s up to me.“}
“And what I plan to do next…”}
“…is watch them tear each other apart like wild dogs.“}
I applied for visitation and met Hunter at the detention center.
He didn’t look like the man I used to know, messy, unshaven and with red, tired eyes.}]
The moment he saw me, he dropped to his knees like a desperate believer, his expression full of regret.}
“Baby, I know I was wrong. Please forgive me. Just this once.”
I looked down at him, my voice calm and sharp.
“Hunter, you were afraid Savannah couldn’t have children because of her heart condition, so you switched the embryos and made me carry your child with her. You uploaded my photos and left me to be mocked, harassed and humiliated by the world. Do you really think any of that can be erased just with an apology?“}
Hunter, still cuffed, quickly reached out and grabbed my hand.”
“Baby, as long as you forgive me, I’ll do anything you want.”}
I looked down at his face, then slowly pulled out a stack of documents from my bag.}
“If that’s true, then transfer all your assets to me.”
Without even blinking, he nodded.}
“Okay. I agree.“>
I placed the papers and a pen in front of him. As he reached for them, a flicker of doubt crossed his face. Just as he was about to read the fine print, I gripped his hand tightly.
“I was eight months pregnant. Do you know what it felt like to find out the baby inside me wasn’t mine but yours and my sister’s? Do you know what it felt like, bleeding out, begging you for help, while you stood there and laughed?“}
“Stop… please, baby… I’m sorry. It was all my fault. I swear, once I’m out, I’ll make it right.”
Without even glancing at the documents, Hunter signed his name.
I calmly slipped the signed papers into my bag and stood, my eyes cold as they looked down at him.}
“From now on, you’re on your own.“>
Hunter stared up at me, confused and desperate.}
“Baby, wait for me. When I get out, I’ll change. We’ll build a good life together.“>
I didn’t say a word.”
Without hesitation, I turned and walked out of the police station.
