I didn’t run. Instead, I waited for him at the
prison gate, picking him up.
Mark looked surprised, but he got in the car.
“What are you doing here? Haven’t you screwed me over enough?”
“Do you have any idea how much I suffered in
there, all because of you? Everyone knew I hired someone to assault my girlfriend. I…….”
Mark didn’t finish, but his face said it all. It
must have been hell in there. I was ready for this. I burst into tears. “Mark, why would you do this to me? I’ve done so much for you. If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t be out so soon.”
Mark’s face went from grief to confusion.
“You? You did something for me? What are your
talking about? You’re the one who got me
locked up.”
く
I shook my head. “I didn’t get you locked up.
You’re my boyfriend. Why would I do that?”
“I don’t believe what Brittany said about you and her. I only believe what I saw. I know you’re a good boyfriend. A good boyfriend who respected me.”
“Even if the test was real, I can understand.
Who wants to marry a woman who can’t protect herself, a woman who’s as dumb as a bag of
rocks?”
Normally, Mark wouldn’t have believed me. But he was a chauvinistic pig. He thought I was in
love with him, Brittany was in love with him, and
he was just a perfect man.
Seeing Mark’s uncertainty, I kept going.
“Besides, if I hated you, why would I write you a
letter? If it wasn’t for my letter, you wouldn’t
have gotten probation.”
Mark was even more confused. “Your letter? I
thought the letter was from Brittany. What are
you talking about?”
I sighed, putting on a devastated act, and pulled
out my phone. First, I found the letter I’d
written. “I don’t know anything about Brittany’s
letter. But look at this. I wrote this letter the day
you got locked up.”
