Chapter 8
Luna turned her head toward him. “What do you want to do?!”
Silas made a call, and moments later, a few men came in and dragged her
out.
She was pushed into the cold storage. The biting chill soaked into her bones. Dressed only in a thin T–shirt and jeans, she had no way to protect herself from the freezing air.
Silas stood nearby, watching her. “Luna, if you tell me where Rachel is: now, I’ll let you out.”
“I didn’t kidnap her!” Luna said, her face pale but voice steady. “I don’t know where she is!”
Frustrated by her stubbornness, Silas steeled himself and ordered, “Close the door. She stays in there until she’s ready to talk.”
The cold storage door slammed shut in front of Luna, freezing air swirling around her. She shivered uncontrollably, her lips turning blue.
Curled up in a corner, she couldn’t even cry. She had no doubt that if Rachel wasn’t found soon, she would die here.
She was just a few days away from freedom.
Her mind was hazy, and her limbs were so cold they felt numb. She had no idea how long she’d been in the cold storage, but just as she was about to pass out, the door finally opened.
Silas rushed in and picked her up from the floor. “Luna, I’m taking you to the hospital!”
Trying to stay conscious, Luna glanced at him, then found a sudden burst of strength to shove him away.
“No need!” The force made her stumble before she steadied herself. She looked at Silas with eyes completely void of love.
She struggled to walk out, her body weak, with Silas following her every step. He sounded frustrated and stammered. “Luna. I was wrong. I didn’t get to the bottom of it.”
He reached out to help her, but she pulled away.
As he kept following her, his phone suddenly rang.
Silas grabbed his phone and immediately answered.
On the other end, Rachel’s voice trembled with tears. “Silas, when are you coming back? I’m so scared. What if those people come to kidnap me again?”
Silas paused behind Luna, then quickly soothed her on the phone. “I’ll be back right away!”
He stepped up to Luna and said, “You go to the hospital first. I have something urgent to take care of, but I’ll be back for you soon.”
Without waiting for Luna’s reply, he walked away.
Of course, he never heard her say, “I’m not waiting for you anymore.”
After Silas left, Luna immediately contacted Nathan. Moments later, a car pulled up in front of her.
The window rolled down, and Nathan’s face appeared.
“How did you know?” she asked, startled.
“We’re partners after all, I’m here to give you a ride,” Nathan said calmly, handing Luna the bag by his side. “I also brought your luggage for you.”
Luna opened the car door and got in, quietly thanking him.
Leaning back in his seat, Nathan continued, “Did you know? Silas just spent 15 million to save a woman.”
Nathan’s words cut deep, like a final stab to her heart. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails dug into her palms. After a while, she released them and whispered. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”
Who Silas spent money on, who he threw his fortune for, it was no longer her concern.
She took out the divorce certificate and handed it to Nathan. “Please do one last thing for me. Give this to him.”
Seeing Nathan nod, she whispered, “Let’s go.”
The car started moving. Luna tossed her phone out the window. It landed on the ground and was crushed by the car behind, broken beyond repair.
