Chapter 7
Luna followed the voice and saw Nathan sitting in a chair, legs crossed. She was taken aback, her voice hoarse. “You saved me?”
Nathan nodded, handed her a glass of water from the nightstand, then placed two documents in front of her.
“One is a share transfer agreement, and the other is your new identity. If everything looks good, just sign.”
Luna silently took the documents and flipped through them. Nathan had been generous with the offer, and the new identity looked flawless. After reading, she signed without hesitation.
With his goal met, Nathan took the documents and looked down at her. “I’ll have someone take you away in three days.”
Luna checked the time on her phone and realized today was the end of the divorce cooling–off period. She nodded. “Alright.”
Nathan turned to leave, but Luna hesitated before calling out, “Mr. Wilson!”
He paused and looked back.
“Thank you for saving me.”
His face stayed blank as he replied, “Ms. Jackson, next time you pick a man, choose more carefully.” Then he walked out.
Luna laughed bitterly. Her injuries weren’t serious, so she decided to just get discharged from the hospital and then head straight to the City Hall.
The moment she got the divorce certificate, it felt like a weight had finally been lifted. She was almost free.
Without wasting a second, she rushed home. Before leaving, she needed to take her mother’s ashes and a few other important belongings.
Just as she finished packing and was about to leave, Silas rushed in, furious.
He grabbed Luna by the throat, his eyes bloodshot. “Luna, tell me, where did you take Rachel?”
Caught off guard, Luna dropped everything in her hands. She struggled to pry his hands off, gasping between words. “What… are you… talking about? I… don’t know!”
Her face turned red from the lack of air, and tears welled up
uncontrollably from the pressure.
“Drop the act, Luna! One minute you claim you were kidnapped, and the next Rachel disappears. Who else could it be if not you?!
“Tell me, where did you hide her?!”
Silas glared at her with hatred, as if she wasn’t the woman he once loved, but the enemy who’d ruined his family.
Luna shut her eyes as tears streamed down her cheeks. When she opened them again, all that was left in her gaze was emptiness.
“I don’t know! Even if you kill me, I still don’t know where she is!”
Her tears fell onto Silas‘ hand, so hot they made him instinctively let go.
Luna collapsed to the floor, clutching her neck, coughing uncontroliably. Silas watched her. For a moment, his hand moved to help her up–but halfway there, he froze, the thought of Rachel’s disappearance pulling him
back.
“Luna, just tell me where you hid Rachel. If you’d told me sooner, I wouldn’t be this angry!”
“I don’t know.” Luna sneered. “Silas, what does her disappearance have to
do with me?”
“You” Silas‘ eyes burned with rage. But when his gaze landed on the luggage beside her, his pupils contracted sharply. “You’re leaving?”
At those words, Luna’s heart jumped. Panic flashed through her, afraid he’d figured out she was planning to leave him for good.
Silas‘ gaze turned cold, his voice firm. “Luna, you said you didn’t kidnap Rachel? If you’re innocent, then why are you in such a hurry to leave?”
He grabbed her chin, forcing her to look up at him. “Tell me, where is she?”
Luna felt a brief moment of relief when Silas thought she was running away because she’d kidnapped Rachel, instead of realizing she was leaving him. But that relief quickly turned to a bitter taste in her mouth.
She knew no explanation would convince him, so she simply turned her head away, refusing to look at him.
Seeing her like that, Silas sneered. “Looks like I’ll have to teach you a lesson, Luna
