Chapter 5
When she woke again, she was back in the hospital bed.
After losing so much blood, she truly thought she might die right there.
The nurse nearby sighed in relief when Luna woke up. “Thank God, you’re finally awake! How do you feel? Any pain anywhere?”
Luna stared blankly at the ceiling for a moment, then forced a smile and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
She spent a week in the hospital, and Silas never visited her. It seemed he’d forgotten about his legal wife, who had almost died from having her blood drained and was now hospitalized.
Instead, Rachel couldn’t keep quiet. Somehow, she got Luna’s number and kept texting her every day, bragging nonstop.
From her few words, she finally learned that when she drank until her stomach bled for a thousand dollars, Silas was upstairs, holding Rachel. just because Rachel casually wondered how far Luna would go for
money.
Luna would eat rotten vegetable scraps she found at the market, saving money to buy meat for the soup she’d make for Silas, only for him to pour everything out for Rachel’s dog.
She even saw Silas refuse to spend 30 dollars on new clothes for her, yet he rented out the whole mall to please Rachel and let her choose freely.
She was trapped in the nightmare Silas called bankruptcy, even as he treated Rachel like a princess.
Then Rachel sent a photo–both of them naked and tangled together. The photo was taken even before Luna caught Rachel lying naked in Silas‘ bed.
Silas had cheated on her much earlier than she thought.
Numbly, Luna scrolled through Rachel’s messages. Her heart pounded loudly, but the pain was gone.
It seemed she was finally ready to let go of Silas.
On the day she was discharged, Luna handled the paperwork alone.
As soon as she got home, Nathan called, inviting her to discuss the details of their collaboration.
She hurriedly packed up and stepped outside, but before she’d gone far, a heavy blow hit the back of her head. Pain shot through her skull, and she lost consciousness before even seeing her attacker.
When she woke again, her hands and feet were tied, and she was trapped. inside an abandoned warehouse.
“Awake?” The kidnapper leader crouched down, and grabbed her cheeks, forcing her to look up. “Call Silas and tell him to send ten million!”
Luna’s throat was dry. “She won’t pay…”
“Enough nonsense!” The kidnapper slapped her. “Everyone knows Silas would risk his life for you. He’d never refuse a mere ten million!”
The kidnapper tossed a phone in front of Luna, nodding sharply. “Call him!”
Luna forced a bitter smile. “We’re about to divorce. He doesn’t care-”
Before she finished, the kidnapper pressed a knife to her neck. The blade
sliced her skin, sending a sharp sting as blood trickled down.
“Not calling? Then watch your flesh get cut off!” he said, ruthlessly slicing a chunk of flesh from her arm.
Blood gushed out, dripping from her fingertips to the floor. Agonizing pain spread through her body. Her vision darkened, and survival instinct took over. She shouted, “Tll call! I will call now!”
She dialed Silas‘ number. The phone beeped twice and then rejected.
Luna’s heart pounded like a drum, cold sweat dripping down her forehead. She didn’t hesitate and quickly called again.
The second time, the third… On the tenth call, someone finally answered.
“Silas!” Luna’s voice was hoarse, tinged with panic. “I’ve been kidnapped. They want 15 million ransom, or else…”
“Luna, you even staged a kidnapping just to get Silas to come over?” Rachel’s mocking voice cut through.
