Chapter 3
Silas stepped forward in two strides and grabbed Luna’s wrist, his voice. turning icy cold.
“Luna, are you crazy? Pushing Rachel was already bad enough, now your want to hit her? When did you get so unreasonable?”
Silas‘ shout made Luna’s heart jolt. A sting rose in her nose as she fought back tears and choked out, “I’m crazy? She fell on her own, I didn’t push her!
“Do you even know what she broke? It was my mom’s urn!
“Why shouldn’t I hit her?”
With every word, Luna’s eyes grew redder. The pain in her gaze stunned Silas. When her words sank in, his eyes widened in shock. “No way… Your mom, when did that happen?”
Before he could finish, Rachel cut in, “Luna, even if you won’t admit you pushed me, you can’t just make up lies and curse your own mother.
“Weren’t you just with her a few days ago?”
Rachel’s words stopped Silas cold. She was right, he’d just seen Luna’s mom a few days ago. How could she have passed away so suddenly?
Realizing this, Silas‘ gaze toward Luna slowly turned to disappointment.
“Luna, you disappoint me so much. To dodge responsibility, you’d even lie about your mom being dead?”
Luna’s eyes trembled. “You think I’m lying?
“Silas, go find out for yourself, then you’ll know if I’m making it up!”
Luna’s firm words shook Silas for a moment. but before he could respond, Rachel’s voice snapped him out of it.
“Silas. it hurts!” she cried, lifting her hand, blood was pouring from a deep cut made by a shard of broken ceramic, which looked bad.
Silas panicked. Without a second thought, he scooped Rachel into his arms and left–without even glancing at Luna still on the floor.
Luna sat on the cold floor as the tears she’d been holding back finally fell. Crying, she gently gathered her mother’s ashes from the ground, her hands stained with a mix of blood and ash.
She was hurt, too. She was cut by the broken ceramic just like Rachel, but Silas hadn’t even noticed.
There was a time when he would panic over the tiniest scratch on her. Now, all he cared about was Rachel.
She carefully placed her mother’s ashes into a new container and returned it to the bedroom, making sure it was safe from being broken again.
Just as she finished, the front door burst open with a loud bang.
A group of burly men stormed in. Luna was startled and instinctively reached behind her for her phone. Her voice was firm as she shouted, “Who are you? You can’t just break into someone’s home, this is illegal!”
“I don’t care if it’s illegal. All I know is you owe money, you pay it back. Simple as that!”
The man in front glared at Luna and held out his hand. “You still owe us 150,000. Pay it back, now.”
“What?” Luna felt the blood drain from her face, her voice shaking with
disbelief. “We were almost done paying it off. How is there still so much.
left?”
“Interest,” the man said coldly.
Luna clenched her jaw. “I don’t have the money, but Silas does. Go find him!”
While trying to stall, her fingers quietly pressed the call button on her phone.
“No money?” the man sneered. “Then you can pay with your hand.”
He motioned to the others. Two men rushed forward and pinned Luna down. Her phone was pried from her grasp and tossed aside, its screen. showing Silas‘ name.
They pinned her hand down, and a heavy stick came crashing down on her wrist. Luna heard the sickening crack of bone. Agonizing pain shot. through her body, and tears streamed from.
“You… this is… a crime…” she gasped, barely holding on to
consciousness. She saw the phone on the floor, it beeped twice before being rejected.
A chill spread through her fingertips. She never imagined Silas would reject her call.
The second strike hit her wrist, and her hand broke completely, hanging lifelessly. Pain overwhelmed her, cold sweat poured down her face, and the room spun.
Seeing she’d stopped struggling, the men tossed her aside like a rag doll in the living room. In her fading consciousness, she saw the leader pull out his phone and make a call.
“Mr. Stellon, as you ordered, we broke her right hand. Don’t worry. We’ve
