Chapter 17
Luna’s schedule for today was to go to the square nearby to feed the pigeons and take some photos. She was all prepared to go out, but as soon as she arrived near the square, she found out that there was a charity event going on there.
The theme of the charity event was to give stray animals a home. Many stray cats and dogs were well taken care of, placed in cages waiting for adoption, with pet food being sold on the side.
On a huge promotional poster at the entrance, it was written that the proceeds from this event would be fully used for the protection of stray animals.
She became interested and followed the crowd inside.
The cats and dogs in the cage were all well–behaved and clean. They would wag their tails enthusiastically when they saw people, and they would also snuggle up to the cage and act coquettishly towards people.
She looked left and right, and locked eyes with a long–haired calico cat that was only three months old.
The calico cat was huddled in the cage, seeming a bit uncomfortable with the situation. Its eyes looked around warily, but when Luna approached, it willingly pressed against the cage and tried to stretch its paw out to reach her hand.
She gently squeezed the calico cat’s paw, the soft pad melting her heart.
“Do you like it? came a cold voice from beside her, startling Luna. She turned her head to look, and when she saw who it was, she was stunned.”
“Nathan? She blinked, “What are you doing here?”
“This event is organized by our company, I just came to take a look. After explaining this, he shifted his gaze to the kitten in the cage in front of her and continued, “Would you like to adopt it if you like it? Just as a
companion?”
Luna hesitated a bit. She had never raised a small animal before and didn’t know if she could do it well. Besides, she was currently traveling the world with no fixed abode, which really wasn’t very suitable.
She was just about to refuse when she heard a “meow” from the cat beside her. It seemed to sense Luna’s thoughts and eagerly approached the cage, blinking its big pitiful eyes at her.
“I can see that you have a connection with it, why not consider it? Nathan could clearly see Luna’s hesitation and asked again.”
Luna did feel a little bit tempted, but after careful consideration, she ultimately decided to firmly reject it.
“Never mind, it wouldn’t have a good life with me anyway, so I’ll let someone else take it away.”
She lowered her head and reached out to poke the calico cat’s head gently with her finger, saying softly, “I’m sorry, I can’t take you home.”
Nathan watched his actions and suddenly felt an impulse. He lowered his head and also reached out to poke the calico cat’s head, saying, “Why don’t you come home with me?”
He turned his head to look at Luna and said to her, “You can come and take a look at it when you have time.”
Luna pursed her lips and said, “You don’t have to…”
She was interrupted by Nathan before she could finish speaking, “It’s
okay, I live alone and it’s boring. Having a little one around should make my life more interesting.”
After he made up his mind, he turned and called a staff member over to have him take the kitten out and put it in a separate cage, then send it back to his villa in his home country.
The staff acknowledged and hurried to attend to the tasks Nathan had assigned. Luna stood up abruptly, but before she could steady herself, someone behind her accidentally bumped into her, causing her to lose control and fall towards Nathan.
Nathan quickly grabbed her arm to prevent her from falling, and Luna, after regaining her balance, was about to thank him when a very familiar voice suddenly came from nearby.
“Luna!”
Her body stiffened for a moment, she turned her head and saw Silas looking at her with a face full of surprise.
Her face instantly turned ugly, and she turned to look at Nathan who was supporting her.
Nathan instantly understood her meaning and quickly assured, “I don’t know how he found out, I never mentioned your whereabouts!”
As they were talking, Silas had already walked up to Luna and without thinking, he was about to hug her, saying, “Luna, I finally found you.”
Luna sidestepped his movement, causing the distance between her and Nathan to close another step.
Silas hesitated, he saw Nathan holding Luna’s hand and the overly close distance between the two, an unnamed anger suddenly rose in his heart.
“Luna, did you leave me because of him?”
“Have you been dating him for a long time?”
