Chapter 11
“What… What? Silas felt as if a bolt of lightning had struck him. “Passed
away?”
“Yes, the neighbor sighed, “her mother had cancer, and because they didn’t have money for treatment, she committed suicide. She was also a poor soul.”
Silas felt weak in the knees, almost unable to stand. He remembered the day when Luna was sitting on the ground in despair, saying word by word, “You go check, then you’ll know whether I’m lying or not!”
But what had he done? He questioned Luna’s honesty, and heartlessly left her to take Rachel to the hospital.
He didn’t notice her emotions, and even had someone interrupt her hand
for Rachel!
His lips trembled as he recalled all the things he had done, only to realize that he had been such a jerk.
He didn’t know how he had made it back home. During those days when he pretended to be poor, he would often deceive Luna by saying he was busy with work, and then he lived in this splendidly decorated villa.
But now that he has returned here, he only feels empty, with no trace of Luna anywhere.
On the living room coffee table lay a folder, quietly catching his attention.
He walked to the desk and picked up the folder, which had only one line of big words on it: “This is from Luna for you.”
Silas’s hand paused, his intuition telling him that the contents of this folder were not going to be what he wanted to see, but he couldn’t resist opening it.
He slowly pulled out the things inside, and the first thing that caught his eye was a small red notebook.
The three big characters “divorce certificate” above burned his heart
fiercely.
He almost instantly remembered the document Luna inexplicably handed to him that day. At that time, he was busy looking for Rachel and signed. it without even looking at it.
If he had taken one more look at that time, would the outcome have been different?
He didn’t expect that Luna would leave so completely, not even willing to leave him a last bit of nostalgia..
The divorce certificate was held tightly in his hand, his fingertips pressing so hard they turned white, his heart aching so much that even breathing became difficult.
In the folder, in addition to the divorce certificate, there was another document with a line of bold black and white text on the first page.
“This wasn’t given to me by Luna, but I think you should know.”
The signature was Nathan.
He trembled as he opened the document, which detailed how Luna had been kidnapped and how he had crushed her hope, leading the kidnappers to tear up the ransom note.
Nathan knew how to kill with precision, not only with words but also with accompanying images.
Chapter
The flames generated by the explosion spread throughout the abandoned warehouse, and Luna’s figure appeared and disappeared in the billowing
smoke.
Silas’s pupils contracted suddenly, he couldn’t imagine what kind of despair she had experienced at that time, and how she managed to survive so resolutely in such circumstances.
And he even dared to let the kidnappers tear up the ticket, and blamed Rachel for being kidnapped, locking her in the cold storage room.
He squatted down, clutching his chest, as the pain spread from his chest to his whole body. He raised his hand and slapped himself hard.
The force was so strong that his eardrums buzzed, and blood instantly overflowed from the corner of his mouth.
But the pain he felt was nothing compared to the pain in his heart. In that moment, he truly regretted, regretted completely!
He squatted on the ground, big tears falling down his cheeks onto the ground.
If he had known earlier, he would definitely not have let Luna leave, but it’s a pity that there is no medicine for regrets in this world.
“With a “drip“, the sound of the door opening was particularly
pronounced in the quiet room.”
Silas’s body stiffened instantly. Knowing it was impossible, he still looked towards the door with a hopeful heart.
He staggered to his feet, staring at the door without blinking.
“Luna… he murmured softly, but the words in his mouth came to a
sudden halt the moment he saw her.”
The person who walked in was Rachel.
