Chapter 190
I thought Denton would crumble after everything I did. But I underestimated how far his madness could go.”
The next afternoon, just as I was walking into the underground parking garage, someone pressed a damp cloth over my nose and mouth. The overpowering scent of ether filled my senses, and then, everything went black.
When I woke up, I was in an abandoned warehouse.
Dust hung in the air. The place smelled like rot and decay. It was pitch dark, except for a single flickering overhead bulb casting a ghostly light. My hands and feet were also tightly bound with coarse rope, and there was duct tape over my mouth.”
A few feet away, I heard the voices of Denton and Melanie.
“Are we really going through with this?” he asked hesitantly.”
“Why not?” Melanie snapped, her voice dripping with hatred. “She destroyed everything! We’ve lost it all! If that’s how it ends, then we all go down together!“}
Their footsteps grew closer, and then I saw them under the swinging bulb.
Melanie’s expression was twisted with sick excitement, while Denton looked like a ghost, bloodshot eyes, sunken face, like someone who’d crawled straight out of hell.
He walked toward me slowly, gripping a knife that gleamed cold under the light.
“Sadie…” He knelt in front of me, ripping the tape from my mouth. “You pushed this too far. I gave you a chance, but you didn’t take it.“”
He then raised the knife high, aiming for my chest.”
And in that moment, I saw in his eyes that he truly intended to kill me.
Left with no choice, I tremblingly screamed, “Denton, do you remember that one–night stand at the Maplewood Hotel seven * years ago?!“}
His knife froze, suspended in the air, less than an inch from my chest.
His eyes widened, wild with disbelief, as he asked, “What… what did you just say?“}
“Mick was your son!” I cried, the words tearing out of me. “You killed your own child with your own hands!“}
Tears blurred my vision, but I kept going.
“You found out I was already pregnant before we got married, didn’t you?“”
He said nothing and just stared at me, stunned, tormented, silent.
“But I didn’t even know who you were back then.” My voice cracked. “I was working part–time at a bar that night when someone drugged me. I barely remember what happened, but I do remember you came in. You saved me. You took me to the hotel.”[
Each word cut into him like a blade. His body began to tremble violently. His face drained of color.”
“That night, we slept together. And when I woke up, you were gone. I thought it was just a horrible mistake until I found out I was pregnant. And you,” I choked back a sob, “you said it was love at first sight. You proposed to me, again and again, ninety–nine times. You told me you loved me, that you loved Mick, that you’d protect us forever.“}
My tears fell freely now. All the sweet lies from the past just felt cruel and mocking now.
“I thought you knew. I thought you always knew that night was with you. I believed that everything you said, all that love, was real.”
His entire body shook. Then the knife slipped from his hand and clattered to the flogr.&
His breathing also turned ragged as his chest heaved.}
“No… no… this can’t be..” he muttered, his eyes empty, like his soul had left him.
Melanie, on the other hand, stood frozen, pale as death. She staggered backward, her face stricken with terror.
“Mick was your son!” I shouted, locking eyes with Denton. My voice was cold and steady now, each word striking like a hammer. “You ripped out your own child’s heart with your own hands! You’re a monster, Denton! A beast! You murdered your own son!”
