Chapter 9
In the hospital, there was chaos.
When Marissa was forcibly taken to the hospital room by the bodyguard, Matt was standing by the window with a cigarette between his fingers, and the ashtray was already full of cigarette butts.

He turned his head, with a pained look in his eyes. “Marissa, have you gone crazy?”
Marissa looked at him calmly and asked, “What?”
“Wedding dress!” He abruptly extinguished his cigarette, his voice suppressing a restrained anger, “I thought you really didn’t care, but you actually tampered with the wedding dress?!”
Marissa paused for a moment, then smiled and said, “Do you think it was me?”
“Who else could it be if not you?!” Matt grabbed her wrist tightly, his grip so strong it felt like he could crush her bones,
ง
“Ruining someone’s innocence is the lowest of the low, especially when she’s carrying my child. Leah is bleeding heavily now, and the baby is barely holding on! Her blood type is rare, and the hospital doesn’t have enough in their blood bank. You need to go donate blood!”
Marissa looked at his furious expression and suddenly felt absurd. He didn’t even ask, just assumed it was her.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say “It’s not me“, but she knew that even if she didn’t go, she would still be taken away. She was about to leave soon,
and she didn’t want any more unexpected twists and turns.

Then she lowered her eyes and whispered, “Okay, I’ll do it.”
The process of drawing blood was very lengthy.
Marissa lay on the hospital bed, watching the bright red blood flow out through the tube, drop by drop, as if her love for Matt over the years was slowly being drained away.
Outside the ward, Cayden and Ava rushed in and immediately pointed at Marissa, angrily scolding, “You poisonous woman! You actually
tampered with the wedding dress, and now Leah has made a fool of herself, and you’ve caused her to end up in the hospital, almost losing her life. Are you satisfied?”
Marissa’s face was pale, her voice weak. “I never touched the wedding dress…”
“Shut up!” Cayden interrupted sharply, “The evidence is conclusive, how dare you still try to argue?!”
Ava even gave the order directly. “Someone come! Drag her down and carry out the family law!”
Matt stood to the side, his hand shaking slightly as he lit a cigarette, but ultimately… he didn’t say a word.
Marissa was pressed down on the cold floor of the family hall, the whip lashing at her back, causing her skin to split open. She bit her lip tightly, refusing to let out a sound. But tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.
She remembered many years ago when she first came to the Holloway family, Matt led her and confidently said to his parents, “Mom, Dad, this is Marissa, my future wife.”
Back then, Cayden and Ava treated her so well. But now, they wish she

were dead.
With the final lash falling, Marissa finally couldn’t hold on any longer and passed out.
When she woke up again, she was lying in the guest room bed, with a sharp pain in her back.
Matt sat on the edge of the bed, and when he saw her wake up, he spoke with a grim expression on his face.
“The doctor said the child is stable now, but her emotions are very unstable…I was wrong, I shouldn’t have expected you to get along with her peacefully.”
He took out a plane ticket and placed it on the bedside table.
“Mom and Dad hope you to stay abroad for a while, and come back after Leah gives birth.”
Marissa looked at the plane ticket and suddenly smiled.
Tomorrow is his and Leah’s wedding. He was probably afraid that she would cause trouble, so he hurried to send her away.
She said nothing and took the plane ticket.
Matt breathed a sigh of relief and softened his tone slightly. “Marissa, rest well. Once everything is over, I will come pick you up.”
Marissa turned away from him and softly murmured, “Hmm.”
The next day, the whole city was live streaming Matt and Leah’s wedding.
Marissa’s immigration procedures were also completed.
She stood in the airport lobby, dragging her suitcase. She glanced down

at the ticket Matt had given her. The destination was Switzerland, a quiet little town. She raised her hand and tore the ticket in half, throwing it into
the trash can.
Then she bought another plane ticket. One–way, flying to Canada.
While waiting for the flight, the airport big screen was broadcasting Matt’s wedding. Matt was dressed in a sharp suit, Leah in a white gown, both smiling brightly.
Marissa suddenly remembered the blush on her face when she was sixteen, Matt shouted, “Marissa I like you” on the basketball court; she remembered her twenty–second birthday, when he knelt in the snow, holding a ring and tremblingly said “Will you marry me“; she remembered their wedding at twenty–five, when he lifted her veil, with tears rolling down his cheeks, saying “Marissa, I only love you in this lifetime“.
She smiled lightly, turned and walked towards the boarding gate, never looking back.

Matt stood on the red carpet, the wedding march swelling around him, yet an uneasy chill crawled up his spine.
“Now, please kiss the bride and groom,” the host announced.
His brows drew together. “I thought this part was cut,” he said coldly.
Before the host could answer, his assistant stumbled onto the stage, face
ashen.
She leaned in, whispering something in his ear.
Matt’s expression instantly froze.

Matt’s body went rigid. His eyes darkened, voice shaking as he gripped
her collar.
“What did you just say? Say it again?!”
Her lips trembled.
