Chapter 19
In Canada, Marissa had received the news that Matt was spreading her message everywhere to find her.
And she also found out about the accident that happened to the plane Matt had booked for her. She dared not think about what would have happened if she had listened to Matt at that time and boarded that plane. How would she be now? And how much more heartbroken would her parents be?
She stirred the coffee in her cup, lost in thought, when Jiang’s mother walked over with a worried look on her face.
“Marissa, Matt was looking for you everywhere, the news has spread overseas, maybe he will soon know your current address.”
Seeing the worried expression on her mother’s face, Marissa smiled reassuringly.
“It’s okay, I’m already surprised that I’ve been able to keep it a secret for this long. Even if he does know that I’m here now, Matt and I will eventually need to have a real closure. Mom, you don’t need to worry about me.
“How could I not worry, you are my daughter.” Brenna Spencer sat down, “When you came over, and I heard about what Matt had done, my heart ached for you, to think you had suffered so much.”
From the moment she came back, her parents have been taking care of her attentively.
Marissa felt a warm feeling in her heart and couldn’t help but hug Brenna.

“It’s okay, that’s all in the past, I won’t have any more contact with Matt in the future.”
Her father was shouting downstairs.
A
“Marissa, that kid from the Acevedo family came looking for you again!”
Upon hearing this, Marissa’s eyes flashed with helplessness, while Brenna smiled cheerfully.
“Hurry up, don’t keep people waiting impatiently.”
“I know, really, who is your biological child after all?” Marissa went downstairs and immediately saw the person sitting on the sofa. “How did you come so early? Wasn’t the appointment for the evening?”
Dwayne Acevedo turned his head and smiled, “I came early to see you and also to meet your parents.”
Marissa really couldn’t deal with him anymore, he always found excuses.
She had only been in Canada for a few days when her parents mentioned whether she should meet an old playmate. The unspoken meaning behind Mr. and Brenna’s words was that they hoped she would be happy. Marissa understood, but having just left Matt, she really wasn’t in the mood now. However, she didn’t expect that if she didn’t go to the mountain, the mountain would come to her.
Dwayne showed up at her door unannounced, bringing so many gifts that her room was soon overflowing.
Marissa felt bad about rejecting him, so she gave him her contact information. Originally, she intended to politely decline his kindness, but as they chatted, Marissa found Dwayne to be really interesting.
He was not too assertive, always considerate and gentle towards her. Even though she rejected him countless times, he did not give up but instead

chatted with her more politely. In fact, when he found out that Marissa missed the dishes from her home country once, he directly brought a recipe and ingredients to the Jiang family’s house and made a table full of dishes for her.
Under such actions, Marissa could no longer say no, and would
occasionally go out with him for a walk. But when it came to love, she felt it was still too far away.
She sat downstairs, not far away, and Dwayne saw her and was very happy. His eyes curved with a smile as he said some interesting things, which even made Jiang’s parents laugh heartily.
Matt’s tension disappeared completely in this atmosphere, even Marissa couldn’t help but smile and listen quietly.
In the evening, when it was almost time, Dwayne finally ended the conversation.
“The time is almost up, I’m going to take Marissa out, have dinner with her, and then bring her back to you, Dwayne said.”
“No problem, no problem. Thanks to you, Marissa has been going out more often recently, Brenna said as she hurriedly pulled Marissa up, much to her daughter’s displeasure.”
However, Marissa wasn’t really upset either. She said a few symbolic words and then followed Dwayne out.
On the way, due to the darkness of the night, Dwayne was holding her hand and leading her all the way until they arrived at the restaurant, where he finally let go.
This time he booked an American restaurant, knowing that Marissa prefers American food.

They sat down separately, exchanged a few words, and then Dwayne lowered his voice, a hint of worry appearing between his eyebrows.
“Marissa, I saw Matt looking for you online.”
