Chapter 17
e
In the basement, as Matt opened the door, Leah was suddenly blinded by the light that came on.
She hadn’t seen the sunlight for several days, staying in a closed and dark place. For a moment, she didn’t react, subconsciously covering her eyes, then suddenly remembered something and looked up.
It was Matt!
Leah seemed to see a lifesaving straw, she didn’t care about anything, and directly hugged Matt’s legs crying out.
“I know I was wrong, I really know I was wrong, please forgive me, Matt! I don’t want anything, just let me go, I’m willing to do anything!”
In just a few days, she lost a lot of weight. Her originally plump figure from pregnancy now looks thin and emaciated.
Matt looked at her calmly and said, “As long as you pay back what you owe Marissa, I will let you go.”
Upon hearing this, Leah’s hope was ignited. She nodded repeatedly, “Okay, okay! It was all my fault before. I slandered Marissa, I was too eager to stay by your side, Matt. I know I was wrong now. I caused her to suffer the consequences of the Holloway family’s rules. I can make it up to her!”
As long as she could escape from this place, Leah didn’t care much
anymore.
Matt lifted his chin and the bodyguard walked in, holding a thick whip in his hand.

Leah was scared when she saw it, but she didn’t struggle because she
knew she would be able to leave after being punished. With one lash, she screamed in pain and blood seeped from her back.
“Marissa was whipped 99 times before, and you will too, not one less, Matt said coldly.”
Leah gritted her teeth.
Another whip came down, and she was whipped to the ground. It was just too painful! How did Marissa manage to endure it before!
Leah screamed in agony, her blood quickly staining her clothes. Matt looked down, silently counting the lashes in his mind.
“Eleven, twelve, thirteen…”
“Seventy, seventy–one, seventy–two…”
A series of numbers, whether they were symbols of redemption or death, Leah had been beaten to the point where she had no strength left to struggle. All she felt was pain coursing through her body. But as long as she could hold on until ninety–nine, she would finally be free.
With a heavy whip, Leah’s back was covered in blood and flesh, “Ah!!”
She was like a piece of dead meat, unable to move at all.
“Ninety–eight, ninety–nine… Stop.”
Matt finally counted to ninety–nine, Leah trembled and said, “Matt, Matt… Can I go now?”
She was full of hope and wanted to escape from this terrifying basement by crawling.
But just an inch away, Matt’s cruel smile. “You may have paid off your

debt to the family, but you still owe Marissa her life, Leah.”
Matt’s words echoed like hell, instantly turning Leah’s face pale. She screamed in disbelief, “This can’t be happening,

this, you promised to let
She screamed wildly, the ground snaked with the blood trails of her crawling. She wanted to escape quickly, but the basement door closed tightly in front of her eyes, once again cutting off the light.
Inside, only Matt was left. He walked towards her. His leather shoes thudded on the ground, thud, thud, thud…
Leah was driven to madness by the sound, screaming with bloodshot eyes.
“Marissa is the one you killed! Not me!”
“Everything I did was enabled by you and the Holloway family! Matt, how dare you treat me like this!“.
“It was you who agreed to send Marissa abroad! It was your decision, not mine! You are the one who owes Marissa an apology!”
The sound of leather shoes stopped as Matt walked up to Leah. He looked down at the pitiful woman and couldn’t understand why he had treated Marissa so badly for someone like her.
Did he really like children? Or did he long for the warm life of a family of three? Even Matt himself was not sure about this, but if it weren’t for
Leah, none of it would have happened.
She was the most important reason.
Matt’s eyes gradually darkened.
When he walked out of the basement again, the butler handed him a

handkerchief.
“Mr. Holloway, the test results for the remains have come back and they do not match Ms. Spencer’s DNA. It is possible that Ms. Spencer did not die.”
