I chased after him.
Levias had gone to Amelia’s room in the middle of the night.
“I’ve run out of patience. Give me the evidence against Carter.”
Amelia said nervously, “The evidence is with my confidant. I haven’t been able to contact her…”
“Then move out of the Serenity Garden.”
Amelia was scared. “Levias, if I leave, Carter will imprison me… he’ll beat me to death. You promised to protect me. Why are you going back on
your word…”
Amelia shot me a venomous look. I crossed my arms and gave her a fake smile.
“It’s because of her! Levias, why are you just like Carter? Why have you both changed! If I hadn’t paid to fix your ear back then, you-”
Levias cut her off.
“First, I am grateful to you, but I have never loved you. You are not my long–lost white moonlight.
“Second, even if I were deaf, I would have clawed my way up from the bottom. Because I had to get my revenge on Carter.
“Third, whatever debt I owed you from the past was all but erased the moment you pushed her into that lake.
“Have I made myself clear enough?”
Amelia collapsed into a chair, looking utterly devastated, tears rolling down her face. “The evidence is in a bank safe deposit box. The password
is…”
Levias got the information he wanted and turned to leave. He stopped in front of me.
I smiled. “Go on. Go and get your final revenge.”
Levias pressed his hand to the back of my neck and kissed me. After a long moment, he let me go and walked out.
Amelia covered her face, sobbing heartbrokenly. “The eighteen–year–old Carter loved me to death. When we were in a car accident, he threw him-
self in front of me without a second’s hesitation. But that same man who was willing to die for me cheated on me again and again after we were
married. When we fought, he would drag me in front of a mirror and tell me with disgust that I was getting old. I came back to this city with my
leverage, thinking I could get back together with Levias… but it was all for nothing. I married the wrong man. I’m thirty–four years old now. My life is
over…”
“How could it be?” I said breezily. “As long as you’re not dead, your life isn’t over. If you want money, go earn it. If you want good food, go eat it. If
you want to sleep with handsome men, go sleep with them. Life is easy.”
Amelia looked up at me, stunned. Then, she smiled. “Now I finally understand why a man like Levias Thorne would fall in love with you.”
She wiped away her tears and held out her hand to me. “I’m sorry for what happened before. Let’s start over. I’m Amelia Garcia, and I’m about to
start a new life.”
I slapped her hand away. “Hmph. I don’t want to know you.”
“Hmph. You’re ungrateful.”
“Hmph. You’re pretentious, a top–tier schemer.”
‘Hmph. You’re overly dramatic, a top–tier drama queen.”
Me: ‘Pift!”
Me: “Pfft!”
Her: “Pfft!”
Me: “Pfft, pfft!”
I was no saint. I wouldn’t forgive her. And I would continue to dislike her.
The evidence Amelia had was enough to put Carter behind bars in both the States and here for a very long time. That’s why he had chased her all
the way to this city.
The day Carter was imprisoned, Amelia left the Serenity Garden.
