Levias and his grandfather had only each other. His grandfather supported him by collecting and selling scrap.
In the video, Carter and his friends had tampered with the grandfather’s electric tricycle. After selling his scrap, the grandfather rode home. The engine suddenly caught fire, but he didn’t notice.
Carter, sitting in his sports car, laughed. “Hey, old man, your ride’s on fire! Hahahaha!”
The grandfather immediately stopped, lifted the seat, and tried to retrieve the money he had stored underneath, his hands reaching into the flam-
- es.
The fire was too big. The money was already ashes.
The grandfather stood there, helpless, his hands burned and bloody. “What do I do…” he said, his voice full of self–blame and anxiety. “I saved that money for so long, to buy Levias new sneaker’s…”
The grandfather was not well; he was coughing constantly. The look on the old man’s face broke my heart.
Carter shrugged. “Poor people value money more than their lives. The old man went home and fell ill. He died not long after.”
Carter played a third video.
In this one, Levias, after handling his grandfather’s funeral, came home. Carter and his friends were waiting for him. Carter played the second
video for Levias.
“If he hadn’t been so desperate to buy you those shoes, your grandfather wouldn’t have gotten sowed up and died. So, you see, you killed him.”
Levias stared at the video, his whole body trembling, tears streaming down his face.
Suddenly, he lunged at Carter like a wild animal and bit his ear.
“АНННННННННН!”
Levias’s mouth was full of blood. He spat out half of Carter’s ear.
Carter screamed, “What are you all standing there for? Get him!”
The other boys started kicking and punching Levias. The boy holding the camera put it down on a table and joined in. Carter grabbed a baseball bat from one of his lackeys and swung it at Levias’s head.
Levias collapsed in a pool of blood, blood streaming from his ear.
Carter was in a hurry to get his ear reattached. Before he left, he ordered, “Keep hitting him. As long as you don’t kill him, cripple him, whatever. I’l
take care of it!”
The third video finally ended.
I felt like I had just watched a very long horror movie.
