Chapter 9
He actually followed me back to Washington, and every day, he would just sit there in the café across from Hammond Group like some kind of ghost.
He kept switching phone numbers to call and text me nonstop. Greg tried more than once–sometimes nicely, sometimes not–to get him to shut it down, but Dominic stuck to me like cling wrap.
Then one day, Jenny came to find him, belly full–term. However, he shoved her to the ground. Immediately, blood poured out from between her legs.
They said it was a pair of twins, a boy and a girl. Neither survived.
And the very next day, the internet exploded. Photos of Dominic and an unknown woman went viral–her face was blurred, but the rest? The angles?
Way too clear. The content was explicit.
Someone also dug up the fact that he had a fiancée while another woman
carried his babies.
He was crucified online–whispers behind his back, fingers pointing at
him on the street.
He cracked. Desperately, he tried to stop me again.
“Julia, we were both fooled! Jenny set me up!
“She drugged me that night. I wasn’t even drunk! It was all a trap!
“She threatened me with those photos after the miscarriage! I didn’t cheat

I just waved for security to drag him out. My voice was cold as ice as I said, “So what? Even if your heart swayed for just a moment, it was still enough to cause real damage. Not to mention, you lied to me from the
start.
“I don’t ever want to see you again.”
He stopped struggling then. It was like something in him finally broke.
Maybe he finally realized that from the beginning, our story had nowhere to go.
He had messed up from the very start.
The whole “pretending to be poor” act? It backfired. Hard.
Later, just like I hoped, I never saw him again.
They say he donated all his assets and became a monk.
As for Jenny, rumor had it she took a huge payout from the Pilkins family and vanished.
However, the doubt had already taken root in my mind.
Honestly, I had suspected it from the start.
It was as if she had suddenly popped up in the company, purposely arranging that run–in with Dominic.
She even went as far as drugging him, getting pregnant, and behaving in ways that clearly seemed calculated.
Like someone was using her to show me what kind of person my ex really
was.

And there was only one person in my life who could’ve pulled that off and had the reason to.
I cornered Greg against the wall, my hand pressing against his throat.
His Adam’s apple was warm against my palm.
He stayed still, just staring at me with those dark, unreadable eyes.
“Jenny’s yours, isn’t she?”
He let out a low chuckle.
“Yeah.”
I was so mad that I clenched my teeth and pressed down harder.
“Behave yourself! Or you’re sleeping in the study tonight!”
He raised both hands like he was surrendering.
“Yes, Ma’am…‘
I blushed from the tips of my ears to my toes and smacked him lightly.
“Where’s my ring? Give it back!”
With a smile, he gently took my hand and slipped the Oppenheimer Blue back onto my finger–the one I thought I had lost.
Then he dropped to one knee again and kissed the ring.
His kiss was soft, reverent–almost sacred.
And just like that, my heart rippled.
Wave after wave, like the threads of fate slowly wrapping us together.
“You’ve been drawing me these past three years, haven’t you?”

He twined his fingers through mine and led me forward, opening that familiar door again.
Behind it was a world he had built just for me.
The creator was both my dearest love and my most faithful follower.
And he would love me like that–forever, unwavering.
I, on the other hand, was the bird who flew far and wide.
Yet, no matter how high I soared, I would always find my way back to him.
