Jenny started clutching her stomach again, crying out in pain.
Dominic’s face twisted–his eyes red with rage–but his attention still flicked to her without thinking.
Greg, meanwhile, casually rolled his shoulders, dusted off his sleeves like nothing happened, and then slid back into the car.
When he saw I was still curled up quietly in the back seat, he reached over and gently rubbed the top of my head.
“Good girl.”
The Rolls–Royce pulled away. Behind us, Dominic suddenly seemed to snap like he had just realized something vital. Then, he bolted after the
car.
“No! Don’t go, Julia! Don’t leave me!
“Julia, you haven’t explained anything! I never agreed to break up!”
His figure in the rearview mirror shrank smaller and smaller, eventually swallowed by the rain and night.
I did not look back. I turned my head, only to meet Greg’s eyes. He had taken off his glasses, and there was something smoldering behind those usually calm lenses.
He lifted my hand and pressed it against his cheek.
His voice was low and rough as he said, “Don’t look at anyone else. Just look at me.

Chapter 6
There was a shallow scratch beneath his eye. His hair was a bit messy, and the top two buttons of his crisp shirt were undone.
I had only seen this side of him when I was eighteen.
That little cut under his eye felt more like a badge of victory than a
wound.

I could not help but reach out. My fingers brushed the mark, the corner of his lips, and eventually, I leaned in and kissed him.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard.
Just like Greg when he was eighteen.
The Pilkins family’s finances were in deep trouble.
Dominic was called back abruptly, and he returned with a grim expression–only to find his mother holding Jenny’s hand, acting all warm and close, just like a real mother–in–law.
His face turned even darker as he headed over.
“What are you doing here?”
Jenny looked up at him with a soft smile and clung to his arm. “Your mom asked me to come, of course!”
However, instead of playing along, he flung her off without hesitation.
“Mom, this isn’t the girlfriend I told you about!”
“Who else could it be if not this one? She’s pregnant with your child!”
His mother, Marianne Kepler, frowned in disapproval.
“You have to take responsibility for her! Pick a good day and get married!”

“No! I refuse!”
Dominic rejected the idea on the spot.

“I’ve said before, I won’t marry anyone other than Julia! Jenny’s pregnancy was just an accident. And how could I bear to let Julia have a baby? She cares so much about her looks!”
Dominic suddenly froze–realizing that the blue diamond might have truly been my favorite.
J’Julia? Julia Hammond? The only daughter of the Hammond family in Washington?”
His father, Bill Pilkins, had shown up at some point and spoke urgently. “You’re saying your girlfriend is Julia Hammond? Then why haven’t you asked her to help us with the company’s capital chain?”
“What Hammond family? My girlfriend is just a regular employee in our company. She’s very capable, and I have already promoted her to project manager!”
Just then, Jenny glanced at her phone and gasped.
“Oh my god! Ms. Hammond is going viral!”
