Chapter 5
“Husband?”
Dominic froze, stunned. “How is that possible? I’m your fiancé!”
Jenny, catching up breathlessly, stared at the luxurious car with open jealousy. “Ms. Hammond really knows how to live it up. You hired that many male models! Why not just ask that colleague who’s been crushing on you to help?”
Dominic let out a cold laugh.
“So that’s it? You hired an actor just to piss me off? Is this guy even half as good–looking as me?”
He stepped forward, clearly ab Purchase completed reg by the collar–only to be stopped in his tracks by two bodyguards in black who blocked him smoothly on both sides.
However, Dominic just sneered.
“Wow, you guys are really committed to the role. What did she pay you? The car must be rented too, right?
“A limited edition Rolls–Royce? You’re really pulling out all the stops, Julia.”
Then he looked me up and down like he had figured out everything.
“You even hurt your legs over this? Seriously? Just to make me jealous? That’s how far you’d go?
“Spend a fortune, rent a luxury car, hire models–all to win me back?”

Greg had been calm the whole time, mostly ignoring the noise. However, when Dominic mentioned my leg injury, his expression shifted.
He glanced over, and I instinctively tried to hide the bloody gash behind my other leg.
Without a word, Greg raised his hand and gently brushed away a tear that had silently slipped down my cheek. Then, as if shielding something precious, he took off his suit jacket and softly draped it over my head.
“Stay in the car.”
I could feel the chill in his anger, buried just under the surface.
So deep down, I said a prayer for Dominic.
Greg slowly pulled out a marriage certificate and held it up, locking eyes with Dominic’s stunned expression.
“Dominic Pilkins, right?” Greg said calmly. “Why don’t you take a good look? Julia and I are legally married.”
At some point, the bodyguards had let go of Dominic. He staggered forward and tried to snatch the certificate, muttering in disbelief, “No way. That kind of fake document is easy to buy online. It can’t be real!
“Right, Julia? You were supposed to marry me!”
However, before I could even answer, Greg had already lost patience. His fist landed clean on Dominic’s jaw.
“That’s for hurting my wife.”
Then he threw another punch, hard, into Dominic’s abdomen. Immediately, Dominic doubled over in pain, like a shrimp curling in on itself.
“And that one’s for disrespecting the Keenan family’s mistress.”

I quietly pulled Greg’s suit jacket off my head, the scent of sandalwood still lingering.
Watching him fight for me–calm, precise, and fiercely protective- something warm bloomed in my chest.
Our families go way back. Greg may only be a few years older, but he was already a major player in both business and politics, so he was basically royalty in Washington’s elite circle.
My father adored me, but he was still a businessman.
From the time I was a little girl, I was told the quiet boy with the cool expression would be my future husband.
I always thought Greg was just a machine–someone who followed rules
and ticked boxes.
Then, when I turned eighteen, I opened the wrong door at the villa.
Inside, Greg was alone in the room, expressing his desires to the portraits of me that were hung on the wall.
His desire and longing were overwhelming.
I panicked and hit the doorframe on my way out before bolting.
I knew people in our world had their own secret obsessions.
Yet, I did not want to be a caged pet or a piece on his chessboard.
Even after that, Greg treated me with nothing but respect, like that moment had never happened.
Still, I ran away before our wedding.
However, I guess I was just a kite drifting far off. And Greg? He never let go of the string.
