Chapter 3 Biting Sarcasm
“I, I’m an adult now!” Gus frowned, as if he was thinking hard about how old he was, and then said seriously, “I should be
around 40!”
Pfft!
This boy claimed to be 40?
Erwina’s anger over Wynfield’s running away from the wedding was gone in an instant.
She teased Gus with a smile, “Alright then, show me your starphone. If you’re over 20, you can help me out with this wedding. We can talk about divorce after the crisis is over.”
While divorce wasn’t easy in the United Empire of Planets, it was better than being randomly assigned to a husband whose
looks were anyone’s guess.
Most importantly, Erwina had standards when it came to her partner’s appearance. If she ended up with an unattractive
husband, she’d lose her appetite and sleep!
She had been willing to put on an act of being madly in love
with Wynfield and agree to marry him because he looked

decent enough.
But he couldn’t hold a candle to Gus right in front of her.
“Starphone…” Gus looked around, then spotted the device on his
wrist.
ONEA
But it seemed broken. He fiddled with it for a while before finally managing to pull up the marriage application interface.
“Is this the right place?”
Erwina leaned in to take a look. It was a black starphone, and she couldn’t tell what brand it was. But it had a nice texture and sheen, so it probably wasn’t cheap.
Maybe it had a privacy feature, or maybe it was damaged, because she couldn’t see anything else. The profile page was a bit scrambled, but at least the QR code for the marriage application was clear.
All she had to do was pull up her own profile page, and the two
of them could scan each other’s codes. That would be their
marriage application to the central system.
If they met the requirements, the system would approve it.
Just then, footsteps came from behind.

Erwina turned her head and saw two women approachi
One was older in a tailored purple dress, radiating elegance and
grace.
The younger one walked beside her, following closely.
They were none other than Wynfield’s mom and sister.
“Erwina, Wynfield still hasn’t shown up. So, what are you
gonna do about this wedding?” Juana Cowan curled her lips into a smug smile.
She had never been a fan of Erwina, whom she saw as a sickly
weakling. In her eyes, Erwina had always been clinging to Wynfield like a leech.
What was more, she and Megan were close friends. They had known each other for seven years.
Wynfield’s mom, Della Cowan, didn’t really mind the marriage.
After all, the two families had a long history together.
Plus, Megan was adopted by the Schrader family.
How could she compare to Erwina, the real deal?
Della said in a serious tone, “Wina, hold on a bit longer for
Wynfield. He’ll make it back.”

Erwina glanced down at the time on her starphone. It was already after nine in the evening.
With less than three hours left until midnight, if Wynfield had intended to rush back, he would have been in District III by
now.
But he hadn’t.
With a smile, Erwina said, “The wedding will go on as planned. You should head back to the banquet hall.”
Della nodded approvingly. Despite Erwina’s poor health, she came from a good family, was well–mannered, and knew how
to behave.
Juana, supporting Della, glanced back at Erwina and sneered, “All that pride is gonna cost you!”
As they walked away, they never noticed Gus around the
corner.
Erwina narrowed her eyes, turned around, and saw that Gus
was still there. He had pulled his fluffy tail back earlier, afraid it would be seen, but now it was out again, cautiously wrapping
around Erwina’s ankle.
