The signing ceremony was nothing short of grand. The venue was set in the banquet hall of the pack house at Montrose Gardens.
Crystal chandeliers bathed the entire hall in golden light, making it feel like daytime. Towers of champagne sparkled under the lights with an inviting glow.
Every detail screamed the opulence and importance of the signing ceremony.
Lycan king had traveled all the way from the Lycan territories just to attend the event.
He stood before the floor–to–ceiling windows, gazing out at the vast expanse of the werewolf realm.
“Alpha,” he marveled, “the design of Montrose Gardens is truly breathtaking. I hear you had this place built specifically for your Luna?”
Carter stood tall in a perfectly tailored suit, his smile polished and diplomatic. He slipped his arm naturally around my waist.
“Yes. Bianca loves scenic views from high places, so I chose this location for her.”
I felt the heat of his palm against my side, but all it stirred in me was nausea.
This man, who once made my heart race, now made my stomach turn with every touch.
“Ugh,” my wolf gagged in disgust inside me.
I swallowed the nausea and forced a smile.
“You flatter me, Lycan king.”
Then Lycan king turned toward me with warm admiration in his eyes.
“Luna, your Alpha’s devotion is enviable. This building isn’t just architecturally unique, but every detail of the interior reflects the care and thought put in for you.”
“Oh, yes,” my wolf sneered, “so thoughtful–even his cheating was ‘meticulously designed.“”
Outwardly, however, I gave a polite nod
“You’re too kind, Lycan king.”

At this moment, flashes lit up the hall in rapid succession. Nearly every major werekind media outlet was present, broadcasting the historic signing event live.
Their cameras lingered not just on the alliance agreement, but also on me and Carter–the picture–perfect fated mates.
Reporters leaned in with excitement.
“Alpha Carter, what does this partnership mean for the Bloodmoon Pack, the Lycan kind, and all of werekind?”
Carter calmly took the mic without missing a beat, his voice composed and charismatic.
“This marks the first alliance of its kind in our history that we join forces to face the future together. We come together not just for peace, but for strength.”
I stood beside him, poised like a statue, every inch of me picture–perfect, but inside, cold memories sliced through me like shards of
ice.
Just half a month ago, I’d woken up in a hospital bed to the pack doctor’s whisper, “The baby didn’t survive.”
And Carter, the mate I once vowed to spend my life with, had been next door, holding Daphne, his female Beta. The woman carrying his
next child.

Carter’s knuckles tapped lightly against my elbow, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“It’s time for you to sign.”
I nodded and followed him toward the signing table like a puppet on strings. Three signatures. A few document exchanges. Handshakes. Photos. Everything unfolded with mechanical precision.
My smile stayed flawless, not a single crack visible to the cameras. No one noticed how my fingers trembled slightly from the effort of keeping myself together.
Then came the press Q&A.
It should’ve been a formality–a cherry on top. Carter clearly expected me to say a few words, to help cement our image of “unity” and “loyalty.”
But I wasn’t that obedient Luna anymore.
A familiar voice rang out.
“Luna, how do you feel about the Bloodmoon Pack’s silver weapons not only being used among werekind, but now becoming important strategic tools for the Lycan kind as well?”

The question came from a female reporter in black–rimmed one I had personally arranged in advance to be there.
Her words landed like claws, tearing through the carefully constructed peaceful illusion of this so–called alliance.
The entire hall fell into stunned silence.
All eyes turned to me.
Tension rippled through the room like the first gust of a storm about to break.
I took the mic from the Beta who handed it to me, scanning the crowd before landing my gaze squarely on Carter.
He looked at me with affectionate eyes, as if pleading silently, “Just play along. One last time. Pretend we’re still fated mates.”
He even gave my hand a gentle squeeze–a gesture that once would’ve melted me, but now only turned my stomach.
I smiled slightly as I took the mic from the Beta.
At this moment, my heart pounded–not from nerves, but from the thrill of what I was about to do.
“Thank you for your question,” I said, my voice echoing clean and clear through the banquet hall. “But I must correct the way you addressed me. I’m not Luna, because Alpha Carter and I have already broken our mate bond.”
