The next morning, I was woken up by the sound of people talking. I sat up in bed, rubbing my aching waist. Hanson was already gone. I stood by the window, looking down at a row of Rolls Royces parked outside. Finally! Finally! The day has come!
Suddenly, my waist didn’t hurt anymore, my legs weren’t sore, and I could climb five flights of stairs in one go. I didn’t even bother putting on shoes as I dashed downstairs.
I saw Hanson, now dressed in a well–fitted black suit, his black–framed glasses replaced with gold–rimmed ones, and a diamond–studded Rolex on his wrist. A crowd had gathered around the entrance, watching the spectacle.
Several bodyguards approached Hanson, bowing respectfully.
Finally, they’re here. You’re finally here.”
Tears of excitement welled up in my eyes, but I held them back and pretended to be scared, “Who are you? Where are you taking my boyfriend?”
A man dressed as a secretary pulled my arm away from Hanson.
“Miss Nancy Faye, please behave yourself. This is Mr. Hanson Gabe, the heir to the Gabe Corporation. To thank you for taking care of Mr. Gabe over the past year, here is a check. You can fill in the amount as a small token of the Gabe Corporation’s gratitude.”
This voice–it was the same person I heard talking with Hanson late at night.
My lips trembled, and tears streamed down my face. I looked like a pitiful wife being abandoned by her husband. My hand reached out to Hanson again, “Hanson, are you… are you leaving me?”

Playing the role to the end, I cried as if my heart was breaking, but inside, I was thrilled. Hanson stood there, his brow furrowed. After a while, he shook off my hand and said, “Let’s part on good terms.”
Yes, yes, yes, that’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for. You have no idea how long I’ve waited for you to say this.

I pretended to be heartbroken, collapsing to the ground, not saying a word, just letting the tears flow. The secretary handed me the blank check and got into the car with Hanson. The whole group came in grandeur and left the same way.
Once their cars had left the neighborhood, I jumped up from the ground, not caring if my hands were dirty, wiping away my tears and snot. I clutched the check and happily ran back upstairs.
