I turned and walked out, but Marcus suddenly chased after me.
“Zoe…” His voice carried unprecedented urgency and panic.
I didn’t look back and kept walking.
He suddenly rushed forward and grabbed my wrist. “Wait!”
I yanked my hand away and laughed coldly. “Marcus, you’ve done so many disgusting things, what else do you want to say now?”
His face instantly turned ashen, his eyes dim and lifeless. “Zoe, I’ve been thinking about you these past few days…”
“Hah,” I sneered, curling the corner of my mouth mockingly. “Found out your Stella is a terrible person, so now you want to come crawling back? Marcus, you can’t have the best of both worlds.”
“That’s not it!” He stepped forward urgently, his voice trembling. “I was just deceived by her! All these years in my heart…”
Just then, his gaze suddenly froze, staring intently behind me.
I turned around and saw Ryan walking toward us with steady steps-no wheelchair, no crutches, just standing upright and walking straight.
“Mr. Aldridge,” came Ryan’s deep voice, “Why are you pestering my wife?”
“You…” Marcus’s voice was caught in his throat, his eyes widening. “Your legs…”

Ryan ignored his shock and walked straight to my side, wrapping his arm
of whiskey mixed with
around my waist. He still carried the faint sc s
his unique cold aura, which smelled particularly good.
Marcus opened his mouth, wanting to say something.
I had already turned to link arms with Ryan. “Let’s go.”
After getting in the car, he buried his head in my neck. “Next time, don’t waste time talking to him.” His tone carried obvious jealousy.

I couldn’t help but laugh. “Got it. I didn’t expect Mr. Mitchell to be such a jealous guy.”
He said sullenly, “I just can’t stand seeing him standing next to you. He’s an eyesore.”
I gently ruffled his hair, like soothing a big, grumpy dog.
He lifted his head, those star–like eyes gazing at me intently, filled with undisguised love.
I couldn’t help but lean closer and plant a light kiss on his lips.
The next morning, I had just finished washing up when I heard a commotion from the garden downstairs.
I pushed open the French window, and the morning breeze carried the scent of roses.
I saw Marcus being blocked by several bodyguards near the fountain, holding a golden retriever on a leash, his expression almost manic.
“Zoe!” He looked up and saw me. “Look, I found a dog that looks exactly like Toby!”

The golden retriever sat obediently, tongue hanging out, indeed looking just like Toby who had grown up with me when
I was a child.
I walked slowly down the steps and approached him.
Seeing me come closer, Marcus’s face showed a hopeful expression. “We can start over. Whatever you want, I’ll…..”
“Marcus,” I interrupted coldly, “Toby died ten years ago. Just like us— we’ve had nothing to do with each other for a long time.”
J’No! I’ll prove it to you…” He muttered to himself, his eyes gradually becoming obsessive.
Three days later, I was having tea with Ryan in the garden when we suddenly heard a commotion outside the main gate.
Marcus dragged in a disheveled figure it was Stella.
“Kneel down!” He yanked hard, and Stella stumbled and fell in front of me. Her face was covered in bruises, and her once carefully styled hair was now tangled like dry grass.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Carrigan!” She trembled as she bowed down, her forehead hitting the ground with dull thuds. “I’m despicable! I deserve to die!”
Marcus kicked her in the shoulder. “Louder! Didn’t you love stealing Zoe’s things? Didn’t you love playing with people’s feelings?”
I shot up from my seat, the teacup overturning on the table.
“Enough!” I shouted. “Marcus, do you think this can make up for everything you’ve done?”
