Chapter 4
My hands wouldn’t stop trembling as I held the prenatal examination report.

The police were still questioning my parents and Titus about why they were forcing me to abort a healthy child.
I looked up in a daze.
Seeing my emotional state, the officer quickly reassured me: “It’s okay, no matter what happens, we’ll help you. So, did you notice anything wrong with this report?”
I shook my head with a bitter smile.
Meeting my mother’s disgusted gaze, she sneered: “Ungrateful wretch, actually having the police take away your own parents!”
“If you verbally attack her again, we’ll have to detain you!” the officer warned my mother.
She shut her mouth but glared at me with even more hatred.
The blurred trauma from that Christmas resurfaced in my mind.
I felt sick all over, biting my lip hard as I looked at the officer: “I’m sorry, I was mistaken earlier. This child does have problems.”
I bowed deeply to the police. They looked at me in surprise, not understanding why I suddenly changed my story after seeing the prenatal report.
They had reviewed the surveillance footage and knew something was

definitely wrong with this prenatal report. “Did you discover something? You can tell us, we’ll definitely find a way to help you.”
I lowered my head in shame.
Sensing my distress, they didn’t press further, only saying: “It’s okay, if you need anything in the future, make sure to tell us right away.”
I bit my lip and nodded timidly.
As soon as we left the police station, my father slapped me. My mother grabbed my hair and pulled my ear to her mouth, cursing me as a whore.
Titus didn’t hit me, but he stared at my belly as if he wanted to cut the child out alive right then and there.
This time I let them beat and curse me without any resistance.
My mother sneered: “So you finally know you’re a slut? If I were you, I’d go kill myself right now!”
She slapped me across the face, and my lip immediately started bleeding.
The prolonged mental strain and physical abuse made my lower abdomen ache dully, but this time, I didn’t care whether this child lived or died.
Even though I let them beat and curse me, they still weren’t satisfied.
My father kicked my weak legs, and I fell to the ground.

Just as he was about to strike my belly, someone suddenly shouted: “What are you doing? What gives you the right to treat a pregnant woman like this!”
Looking toward the voice, I realized a crowd of reporters and onlookers had been standing outside the police station, with countless cameras pointed at us.
My parents were forced to stop.
I thought coldly: “Looks like we caused too much of a scene at the hospital and attracted too much attention.”
The man who had just shouted angrily was a reporter. He quickly walked over and helped me up from the ground.
He said gently: “Don’t worry, we’ll definitely help you. Pregnant women are a vulnerable group. If they dare lay a hand on you again, the netizens won’t let them off either.”
I looked up at him, but the moment I caught sight of the cameras, I looked away.
Behind the reporters stood many onlookers, all pointing at my parents and Titus.
“You people have no shame! You’re her parents, yet you’re making her abort a healthy child! What exactly are you trying to do?”
“If you didn’t want the child, you should have said so before she got pregnant. Now wanting to abort this baby will only hurt the pregnant woman!”

“Her husband is simply an animal! Haven’t you thought about how much your wife must love you to be willing to have your
child?”
They grew more and more agitated, even preparing to physically confront my parents and Titus.
But my mother wasn’t panicked at all–she actually smiled.
The male reporter asked me: “What did the police say? The law might not be able to directly save you, but if you want a divorce and to cut ties with them, we’ll definitely help you.”
My mother asked him with a cold laugh: “You really are such a good person.”
The male reporter was furious: “I’m not a good person, but I definitely have more conscience than animals like you!”
My mother smiled as she walked up to the male reporter and handed him the prenatal examination report.
Instantly, my heart began pounding.
