Chapter 25
Lavender froze. “Desmond, what happened to my parents? What did you do to them?!”
Desmond shrugged. “They had nothing to do with me. Blame Cyanne. I merely cooperated
with her.
“She wanted those two old fools dead. I wanted to use them to lure you out. That’s all there was between us–a partnership.”
“You son of a bitch!”
In Lavender’s memory, Desmond had always been gentle and refined like a gemstone. How had he become this?
But instead of anger, Desmond laughed. “Yeah, I am the son of a bitch. And at the root of it all–it’s because I love you so much.
“Honey, just wait a little longer. The jet will be here in thirty minutes. I bought an island in Bali. Once we get there, it’ll be just the two of us, living out the life you always wanted.
“You used to dream about settling down with me, didn’t you? That dream is about to come
true.”
On the ground nearby, Beige stirred. Thrown aside earlier; she was just waking up–and the first thing she heard was Desmond rambling on like he was living in a fantasy.
“Ugh! You jerk think you’re worthy of her?” she spat. “Avy is my sister–in–law. Let us go now, or when Red gets here, you’ll regret it!”
At the mention of Red, Desmond’s face reddened visibly.
“Ugh. Every single person in your family disgusts me. Your brother took one of my legs. I’ll return the favor and take both of yours. Consider it a gift to him.”
He reached to his waist, pulled out a gun, and cocked it.
In that split–second, Lavender screamed, her voice sharp with panic. “Desmond, if you so much as touch her, I’ll bite my tongue and die right here!“,
His finger slackened on the trigger. He looked at her with a twisted smile. “Fine. I won’t shoot. I’ll let her go.”
Lavender exhaled shakily. Relief started to settle in–until the door opened and someone else walked in, sending her blood surging with fury.
“Mondy, are those two old fools dead yet?” Cyanne sauntered in on high heels, a venomous air radiating from her.
Lavender’s fists clenched tight. Her voice trembled as she forced out each word. “Cyanne, they treated you so well. How could you do this to them?”
“So well?” Cyanne sneered., “They only treated me so well because I was good at pretending.
“If I hadn’t been playing the pitiful orphan all this time, do you think they would’ve shown their precious adopted daughter any kindness? They were fools–and that’s why they

ended up like this.
“Honestly, out of respect for the past, I wasn’t going to go this far. But they insisted on marrying me off to Mondy. That pushed me over the edge.
“But really, I have to thank Mondy. He knew I didn’t love him anymore, but he still helped me. As long as those two old fools were dead and you were gone, everything the Winslets own will be mine.”
Lavender trembled, her whole body shaking with rage. She clenched her teeth so hard they nearly cracked.
She had never seen someone this shameless in her life.
Before she could speak, Desmond suddenly raised his gun and fired–straight into Cyanne’s chest.
A deafening bang exploded in the room, freezing everyone, especially yanne, who dropped to her knees, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“Aren’t… we… allies? W… Why?”
Desmond gave her a chilling smile, his eyes narrowed. “Allies? You thought I didn’t know what you were up to in France?
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have had to take this dark path, forcing Avy to leave her home behind. That’s why you deserve to die!
“I only approached you to use you. Who knew you’d be such an idiot?
“Your job’s done. Now so are you.”
His voice was so cold, so theatrical, it made even Lavender feel like she was staring at a
stranger.
Cyanne collapsed, desperately trying to crawl toward the door, but she didn’t make it far before her body went limp.
Desmond let out a derisive snort, then called out to his men. “Take her corpse out. Feed
to the bears.”
