There were no scars left on Marcus‘ body. After the accident, it was as if he’d gone through some kind of epiphany. His kindness toward me gained a rare touch of sincerity.
Nina kept messaging him, but he never responded. Instead, he stayed by my side with full devotion until I got pregnant.
When he knew I was carrying his kid, he became even more attentive. He started cooking for me every day and even skipped a few business meetings.
“Emily, try this. It’s good for the baby,” he said, gently bringing over a bowl of bone broth and feeding it to me carefully. I smiled and swallowed. If he keeps treating me like this, I might fall for him again.
But that night, just as our relationship appeared to be improving, Nina returned.
“Marcus, I can’t hold on anymore…” Her voice message pierced through the quiet bedroom like a blade. Then came a photo of her bloody wrist.
Upon seeing this, Marcus shot up from the bed, his face turned ghostly pale. “I have to go check on her!”
Just then, a sudden wave of pain struck my stomach, and I clutched my stomach tightly. “Hubby, my stomach hurts a lot. Can you…”
“Can’t you just be reasonable for once?!” he exploded. “Nina might die!”
He ripped my hand from his sleeve and rushed out while I staggered and fell on the bed.

Fortunately, the baby in my belly was fine. I bit my lip and asked the butler to call the family doctor.
Just then, a photo was sent to my phone.
Marcus stood at Nina’s apartment, shocked, as he gazed at her fake wound.
On the dressing table, a man’s wristwatch gleamed coldly under the light. And in the drawer of the nightstand lay an open box of condoms.
“You lied to me?” His voice quivered.
“Right back at you,” she replied nonchalantly, wiping the artificial blood from her wrist. “We agreed that you’d drive her to suicide, so we could take her shares, and then you’d marry me. But now you’ve actually fallen for her?”
“Emily is a good person. We shouldn’t have done this to her. Besides, she saved me. I believe she could accept you. Since she loves me that much, she’d agree to it.” Marcus’s voice cracked with pain.
Nina chuckled sweetly, and her eyes were full of venom. “You were the one who betrayed me first. So why do you get to sleep with both of us while I have to stay loyal to you?”
“She twisted a lock of her long hair flirtatiously, her smile venomous.
“Marcus, do you want to know a little secret? However many times you slept with Emily, that’s how many men I slept with. Every one of them is different.”
“Oh, and one more thing. You know that little girl who saved you in the snow all those years ago? It wasn’t me!”
