Chapter 6
After a long pause, Raylan suddenly let out a cold laugh.
“Jordyn, what kind of game are you trying to play now?
“Divorce? Do you really think I’ll just forget what you did earlier because you’re asking for this? Even if you’re my wife, I won’t let you off that easily!”
Raylan still thought I was playing the victim by asking for a divorce.
But honestly, there wasn’t a single thing about him that appealed to me anymore.
I gave a casual shrug.
“It doesn’t matter what you think. Whether you believe I’m being stubborn or trying to plead, I’ve already made up my mind. I’ll get a lawyer soon to handle the paperwork. I just wanted you to hear it first.”
I started to walk away, but then something crossed my mind.
I turned back to the couple holding hands, and my grin widened.
“Oh, one last thing. Everyone in our family already knows about the affair between you and Leila. I have plenty of proof, so in the divorce, I’ll be demanding that you leave with nothing.‘
“Jordyn, you’re completely shameless! I bet you set this whole thing up ahead of time!”
Leila tried to chase after me furiously, but I walked out of the police station without glancing back.

Once I got back to the airline, my manager immediately called me into his office.
After all, this time, Raylan’s mess had spiraled out of control, and it even blew up on social media, stirring up a storm of public outrage.
Because of that, the company was under heavy pressure from both the media and the public, and needed to release a statement quickly.
It might not have been a huge deal if Raylan had just faced a normal delay, but it happened during a medical emergency, and the patient turned out to be someone really important.
The manager let out a long sigh.
“I trusted Raylan with this flight because he was always careful and hardworking. I never thought he’d end up creating such a disaster for us!
“Now that the police are involved, he can’t avoid getting in trouble. As the crew’s co–pilot, you also share some of the blame for this incident. But since you were the one who reported it, the company won’t punish you for
now.”
I gave a small nod.
“Thank you, Sir.”
The manager continued, “Also, make sure you find some time to visit him -offer your condolences, at least for appearances sake.”
Raylan and Leila probably had no clue that Bryan was the mayor’s son. That’s why Leila felt so bold about starting trouble on the plane.
She thought he was just some random kid, and if something happened to him, no one would care.
She thought Raylan would always cover for her no matter what. But this

time, she finally faced serious consequences.
When I walked out of the office, I bumped into the other crew members who had just been scolded.
A few of them were still upset and stood whispering complaints in the hallway.
“What does this have to do with us anyway? Leila always brags about having the captain on her side. How can we, just a bunch of low–ranking staff, stand up to her? I wasn’t even there when she was having her fun, yet now we all get blamed for her mistake!”
“Exactly. I’m so unlucky to have ended up on this flight. But honestly, I think Jordyn has it the worst. Her husband is so protective of his mistress that he made his wife apologize. If that were me, I’d be furious and lash out at them.”
“Given how things were, what else could she do? Did you see that kid’s lips? They’re so pale. He probably couldn’t make it. I wonder what’s happening with him now.”
They kept whining openly without realizing I was right behind them, listening.
I didn’t want to keep hearing their mocking words, so I was about to head down the other hallway when one of the flight attendants suddenly said something,
“I recall that Leila didn’t seem to get hired through the proper process. She joined at the same time we did, but right away, she got special treatment from the captain. Maybe there was something suspicious going on between them?”
The other flight attendant shot him a sharp glare.

“Don’t say stuff like that unless you want to get yourself in big trouble!”
After saying that, a few people looked annoyed, changed the topic, and walked away.
Meanwhile, I drifted off, thinking about the past.
Leila started working at the company six months ago.
I remember it well because six months ago was the first time Raylan missed my birthday.
He told me he couldn’t make it because they were welcoming new hires to the team, and he had to go.
But there was never a fixed relationship between the captain and the
crew. Sometimes, a lot of crew members come and go within just a month of flights.
From what I remember, Raylan barely exchanged small talk with the flight attendants–definitely not close enough to justify going to some welcome party.
That same evening, I noticed a woman’s perfume on him.
The next day, as I was boarding the plane, I caught the same perfume on a new flight attendant.
Women usually have a sharp sense of smell, especially when it comes to catching signs that their husbands might be cheating on them.
That’s why, from then on, I began watching Leila closely.
Looking back now, if Leila really pulled strings to get hired just to be with Raylan, then this was the final piece I needed to bring her down for good!
