The moment those words were spoken, Raylan’s expression shifted dramatically.
He snapped, “Have you lost your mind? Do you realize what could happen if you abandon your duty without permission? If anything serious gets delayed because of you, don’t expect me to help you out!”
I kept quiet and fixed my eyes on Leila, who was massaging his shoulders.
When Raylan noticed where I was looking, he cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Leila, head over to the first–class cabin and get some rest. If anyone from the crew gives you trouble, let me know–I’ll take care of it.”
Hearing this, Leila stood up and left unsteadily.

When I entered the first–class cabin, I found Leila lounging in her seat with her legs propped up.
There were several shattered glasses around her feet, and spilled drinks covered the floor.
“Leila, it’s bad enough you’re slacking off in first class, but what makes you think we’re supposed to serve you on our knees?”
“Remember, you’re part of the cabin crew. Your supervisor is the lead flight attendant. When we land and someone demands an explanation, not even the captain–or the state governor–will be able to protect you!”
Leila scowled and kicked the food cart in front of her in a fit of anger.

She locked eyes with me, then dropped her innocent act and sneered.
“You’re just a tramp who slept her way to the top. Do you really think you have the right to boss me around?”
