“Lynette, you’re just a nobody. Who do you
think you are?” Clarissa snapped.
She tugged at Horace’s arm.
“Honey, how can she be so arrogant? She
broke the law and should be locked up.”
“Be quiet!” Horace yelled.
Clarissa gaped at him.
く
“Are you yelling at me?”
Horace shook her off, his eyes filled with love
as he looked at me.
“Lynette, I was wrong. Forgive me, please?
Let’s be a family again.”
I looked at my dad.
“Mr. Lynn, please escort these people out of
here.”
After the meeting, I went to my dad’s office.
He was worried about me.
He’d told me to dump Horace, but I married
him anyway.
Dad had been right all along.
“Dad, I’m okay.” I smiled.
“I’m still planning to take over the company.”
Dad was relieved.
When I got home, the living room was full of
familiar faces.
Horace and Clarissa, and his parents.
I’d forgotten to change the locks.
“Well, look who’s back,” Horace’s mom
sneered.
I took my time putting my shoes away and
poured myself a glass of water
く
“Are you trying to play the victim? Horace has
a love child. You don’t need to be here.”
Horace’s parents looked awkward.
Horace went white.
Clarissa acted like she had done nothing
wrong.
Horace’s father slammed his glass on the
table.
“Our family line is three generations strong.
You can’t have a baby after five years. We
didn’t kick you to the curb. Clarissa gave us a
son. You need to be grateful.”
I smirked at Horace’s mom.
child with someone else?”
Horace’s mom glared at me.
Horace’s dad went ballistic.
“Horace is my son.”
He was turning purple.
“So, you won’t take care of him if he’s not
your biological son?”
“I thought you were so generous.”
I scoffed.
“Get out. If you don’t, I’m calling security to
throw you out.”
!
<
“Lynette, you are awful. Where’s your
upbringing?”
“They are your in–laws. Didn’t your parents
teach you to respect your elders?” Clarissa
snapped.
“You need to know what shame is.”
“You had a child with a married man. Who
gave you the right?”
“My elders? They’re not worth my respect.
They condone their son’s cheating. What
respect do they deserve?”
“You thought you could walk all over me
because I was nice to you.”
“I took care of you when you were
L
hospitalized and gave you $100,000.”
“I could have thrown the money in the water
instead.”
“You treated me like a doormat. Where is
your conscience?”
I got my phone and called security.
“Get out. If you don’t, I’m calling security to
throw you out.”
“Lynette, are you going to leave me? I am
sorry. Please forgive me.” Horace begged.
He carefully took my hand.
“Do you deserve it?”
“Why should I forgive you? Are you worthy?”
“You chased after me and promised me
forever. I believed you.”
“I used my connections to help you in your
career. As soon as you got promoted, you
didn’t care about me anymore.”
“You forgot who helped you get to the top.
You’re so good at using people.” I pulled my
hand away.
Horace’s eyes were filled with pain.
