I gave the reports I’d done to Vanessa.
The company was doing great, and I knew it
from my ground–level perspective.
Horace always told me to quit my job and be
a stay–at–home wife, but I didn’t listen to
him.
Now that he was out of the picture, I could
focus on my work.
Vanessa asked me to take the meeting
The chairwoman smiled at me, and I nodded
before jotting down notes.
Then, two unexpected guests walked in.
Horace came with Clarissa.
Clarissa shot me a smug look.
“Lynette, you’ve broken the law. Do you know
that?”
Everyone froze and stared at Clarissa.
She was one of Horace’s subordinates.
Her behavior made no sense.
Vanessa frowned.
<
“Who are you? Who let you in?”
“Vanessa? Are you trying to protect your
subordinate who has leaked company
secrets?” Clarissa seemed very confident.
She waved a stack of documents in her hand.
Everyone looked at each other.
Horace gave me a contemptuous look and
said loudly, “Lynette, you have betrayed the
company’s trust. I will let you resign
voluntarily. As your husband, I am also
responsible, so I won’t divorce you.”
The executives looked at each other.
They knew Horace had a submissive wife.
<
I was head over heels for him.
“I want to divorce you.”
I chuckled, tapping my fingers on the table.
“Horace doesn’t care about the company.
Chairwoman, I think he should leave the
company. What do you think?”
I looked at the chairwoman, waiting for her to
respond.
She had a dark look on her face as she gazed
at Horace.
Seeing that things were not going as he had
planned, Horace snapped, “What are you
talking about, Lynette?”
<
The chairwoman said, “Horace, you’re fired.”
2
Clarissa flipped out.
“What are you doing? Lynette leaked
company secrets and should go to prison.
What does this have to do with Horace?”
The executives were staring at her like she
had sprouted a second head.
Clarissa tried to yank me out of my chair.
“Lynette, you’re the one who’s getting fired.
Get up!”
But Vanessa blocked her.
Vanessa gave Clarissa the same “are you
N
“Horace, who do you think got you into that
position? Have you already forgotten?” I
asked with a smile.
Horace started to argue, then his eyes
widened.
I worked with him at Lynn Enterprises when
we were graduating.
The chairman, Mr. Lynn, was my father, but I
hid that fact.
Horace asked me to introduce him to Mr.
Lynn.
I agreed because I was head–over–heels for
him.
Dad gave him his full support.
<
Horace was promoted and got a raise,
becoming the main breadwinner.
He also got Clarissa a job.
I knew Clarissa was a single–and–proud
influencer, so I didn’t think anything of it.
But later, I realized she wasn’t against love,
only marriage.
I told Horace to keep a distance, but he said I
was being narrow–minded.
I dismissed it.
They had a six–year–old kid.
And the kid was conceived naturally.
My father didn’t want me to tell Horace about
my background.
I did what he said.
I was a regular employee, and few people
knew who I was.
