Chapter 10 Condescension
Madeleine was always uneasy whenever she saw Madilyn.
Madilyn had plotted against her behind the scenes–clearly, Madilyn was nothing but scheming and vicious.
“Ms. Deleon, you know my aunt? She’s been taking care of me after the surgery.”
Madeleine smiled, trying her best to appear calm.
Jaylene nodded, playing along. “Leine is out here in Agrafdale alone, and her mom worries about her. She wants me to look after Leine more often.”
Madilyn remained skeptical–it seemed way too coincidental.
She glanced at Madeleine, her gaze darkening. “I’m warning you–stay away from Vincent. If you dare to hit on him, I’m gonna make you suffer.”
Madeleine gasped, thinking, “Gosh, does she see me as her rival in love?
“Should I feel flattered?”
“Ms. Deleon, maybe there’s some misunderstanding. Mr. Romero and I are like from two different worlds, and I can barely see him once a year. Our paths will never cross. You’ve got nothing to worry about.” With that, she looped her arm around Jaylene’s and headed to the checkout
hurriedly.
Madilyn stared at Madeleine’s back, a killing intent flashing across her eyes.

Somehow, she grew more and more uneasy, thinking, “Did Madeleine really get rid of the baby?
“Has she been lying to me?”

Madeleine finally breathed a sigh of relief when she came back to the apartment.
She pushed open the door.
In the next second, a tall, beefy figure came into her view, startling her for the second time within a day.
“M–Mr. Romero? What are you doing here?”
It was the first time he had come here after she moved in.
“I passed by,” Vincent responded flatly.
In fact, he was here for a routine inspection, making sure nothing here would threaten the safety of his babies
Madeleine nodded, poured herself some water, and took a sip on the couch, trying to calm down after seeing him.
Then Jaylene told him about their brief encounter with Madilyn in the supermarket.
Worried that he might get upset, Madeleine quickly added, “Don’t worry, Mr. Romero. I told Ms. Deleon Jaylene is my aunt, and it worked. She didn’t get suspicious at all.”
Vincent frowned slightly. In fact, he didn’t care about Madilyn. Though she was shrewd, she couldn’t do any real harm. It was some other people

that he should be wary of.
“Tell me right away if anything happens from now on,” he said.
“OK.” Madeleine gave a nod.
There was indeed something she needed to tell him.
She was about to text him later to tell him, but why wait now that he was here?
“Mr. Romero, I withdrew 16,000 dollars from the card earlier this afternoon. Rest assured–I’ll pay you back in installments along with that 8,000 dollars.”
Vincent sneered mockingly.
He thought, “Is this her new trick?
“She’s indeed cunning and full of schemes.”
“As I said, the money is for your expenses. You don’t have to report this to me. What you need to do is stay in your lane,” he said coldly.
As Madeleine heard his words, that unexpected kiss emerged in her mind suddenly. Her cheeks flushed with shyness as she grabbed the glass and took another big sip.
She said, “I’ve always stayed in my lane, and I always will be.”
Yeah, right!
The mockery in Vincent’s eyes grew deeper, mixed with contempt.
He thought, “She’s good at putting on an act indeed, but she shouldn’t try to fool me. I’m smart enough to see through her right away.”

Staring at her, he warned, “If you try to play tricks, you’re just digging your own grave. Mark my words.”
Madeleine thought, “Play tricks? I’ve never played any tricks.
“In his eyes, he’s the chosen one, while I’m just a nobody, so he looks down on me and judges me arrogantly–people as influential as him always do this.
“I couldn’t be bothered to explain.
“He can think however he wants. Anyway, we’ll be strangers after I give birth.”
She said, “Mr. Romero, rest assured. I’ll behave till I give birth.”
With that, she went into her room, deciding to take a shower and then enjoy a good meal. She refused to let a certain jerk ruin her mood.
Meanwhile, Vincent had a cup of tea on the couch. It was getting late, so he was about to leave.
Just then, he heard a scream from the bathroom.
He sprang to his feet and rushed toward the bathroom as fast as he could.
