“Kylie? I need your help.”
Violet’s POV
Two days.
It had been two days since Mia was taken, and I hadn’t found a
single lead.
The desperate ache in my chest wouldn’t go away. I felt like I
was suffocating, unable to breathe, and I couldn’t escape the
thought of her–my baby–out there somewhere with my worst
enemy, and no one to protect her.
Asher was beside me, trying to get me to eat, but I couldn’t. I just
couldn’t. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Mia’s face, her little
eyes wide with fear. How could I eat? How could I focus on
anything other than finding her?
“You need to eat something, Violet,” Asher said again, his voice
soft but firm. “You can’t help Mia if you’re on the verge of
collapsing.”

But I shook my head, the knot in my stomach twisting tighter.
He sighed, his frustration and concern clear. “I know, but you’re
no use to her like this.” He cupped my face, caressing my cheek
with his thumb. “Kylie already agreed to come. We will have a
breakthrough soon!””
Yes, Kylie agreed to meet with me at the Royal Packhouse
when I called her. She agreed way too easily if you asked me. It
was almost like she was waiting for me to ask for help. And I
knew her help would come at a very expensive price.
And now I was waiting for her to show up, pacing back and
forth, my hands trembling. Jayden, Olivia, Asher, and the rest
of my family were in the room with me, but their presence did
little to calm me. They weren’t really hiding her disdain for this
decision.
“I still think this is a terrible idea,” Olivia said, arms crossed,
glaring at the door. “We had just got rid of her and now we are
inviting her back into our lives again? Who know what kind of
trouble she will cause this time? And you seriously think she
really meant to help? She never cared about anyone but
herself!”
“I know, Olivia, of course she wants something.” I sighed, feeling

the pressure build in my chest. “But what other choices do we
have?”
Olivia shook her head, “I guarantee you’ll regret it.”
Part of me already regretted it. I couldn’t stop thinking what
Kylie would ask in return and what I was willing to give. And
the answer was everything.
Asher, standing off to the side, couldn’t hide his displeasure
either. “This is a mistake,” he suddenly said, his face tense. “I
should call her and call it off.”
“NO! She’s already on her way! Could be here at any minutes. I
promise I won’t trust her easily. Let’s just hear what she has to
offer!””
“Then you will give her the chance to get into your head and
mess with your mind again! You know she can do that! Just
think of her in the same room with us makes me sick-“The door
swung open right at this moment, and Kylie walked in,
overhearing Asher’s words.
“Well, well,” she snickered, glancing around at the room full of
tense faces. “This isn’t the warm welcome I was hoping for. If
you don’t want me here, I can always just.go home.”

I could see the smirk tugging at her lips. She knew she was
winning. And she was enjoying it. This wasn’t going to be easy
for us.
Olivia shot her a nasty look. “What else do you expect? You
know everyone here hates you.”
Kylie giggled, “Really? Hate me? But that’s not what Violet said
when she called me and begged for my help. Right Violet?”
She looked over to me, her eyes gleaming with a cruel sense of
taunt and amusement. I knew what she wanted. She wanted
me to beg.
I hated her. I really did. But right now, I needed her. I had no
choice but to put on a fake smile, one I knew looked as hollow
as I felt. “It was just a joke,” I said, trying to play it off, “I invited
you. So of course you are welcomed here. Right Asher?”
He said nothing. I could feel his irritation building.
“Oh, does the King not want me here?” Kylie asked, batting her
eyelashes.
‘SAY SOMETHING!‘ I mindlinked Asher, urging him.
He took in a deep breath. And I could tell he was using his

entire willpower to stop himself from losing it at her. Then
slowly, he spoke up in a deep voice, “Of course I want you here.
It’s been a while since we last met. How are you?”
“Not great. The last time we met you were awful to me. You
took away my everything. And you were my husband, the one
person I love and trust in this world. Do you know how that
makes me feel?”
