Violet’s POV ·
“No…L–Let go of me…”
Yet his grip only grew tighter, “You think I’m capable of
hurting my own parents? That I am a fucking monster just
because I am a rogue? Well let me tell you this: Not all rogues
are evil. And those who seem nice might just be the one
backstabbing you!”
My face turned red because of the lack of breath. Suddenly he
let go, and I dropped to the ground, coughing violently.
“Yes, I hate them for abandoning me and want them to pay
back their sin. But blood still bound us. I’d never set fire to
them! It’s so fucking sick.”
I covered my throat and looked up to him, “Then what about
Patrick? At least you have the gut to admit that you hurt Asher‘
s Gamma?”
“I will admit it if I actually did it! But I didn’t do shit!” he spat
angrily, “It must be really easy to blame the rogues for all the
fucking murders in your pack.”
I looked at him, bewildered. His words just turned my world
upside down, changing everything I once believed in. Was he
lying to cover up his crime? But his expression seemed sincere…
“How’s this possible…Everyone know that you killed Patrick…
People saw it with their own eyes…”
He cursed, raking his fingers through his hairs, “OK let me ask
you this. Why would I kill Asher’s Gamma? I have no beef with
your pack. My hatred is personal and I would never take it on
innocent people!”
I knew I shouldn’t believe him. But I could tell that he was a
proud man. Too proud to lie about this. If he had hurt any of
those people, he would be more likely to brag about it than
deny everything.
It got me thinking–if he was innocent, then who was the
culprit? All the evidence pointed to him…Was something
deliberately framing him? Were we all misled?
It was horrifying really. Because we had no idea that we had been manipulated. The person behind this must be really good.
“How are they?…My parents?” Isaac asked, his voice raspy. “They are still in the ICU right now. The doctors aren’t making
any promises…I guess we can just wait and see,” I murmured.
He threw a punch at the tree and cursed. His eyes bloodshot
with anger. I shared his frustration. Our loved ones were in a
critical condition yet there was nothing we could do to help.
“Listen, I need to head back,” I said to him. I could feel Asher
growing more and more anxious through our matebond.
Maybe he had sensed that I wasn’t around. I needed to be back
at the hospital and check on him.
“Fine. Go.” Isaac gave me a dark look, “But a word of advice? Do
not trust the royal family.”
“What do you mean?” I asked urgently.
“I’ve been writing letters to them in years accusing them of
abandoning me. They definitely want me gone. And they
wouldn’t want anyone to discover my existence because it is
such a moral stain. So what’s the best way to get rid of me
without causing blood on their own hand?” he sneered, “You
chapter 41
I held my breath in horror.
He was saying that the royal family was using us to get rid of Isaac. I didn’t like the royal family but this accusation…it was
outrageous!
“They sent me to the rouges. The King and Queen!” Isaac bellowed, clenching his fists. “Those fucking hypocrites…I hate my parents for getting onboard with the plan. But I hate the
royals more!”
“If they sent you to the rogues, then who’s that Matthew? The King and Queen’s trueborn? Because Asher’s father thought
Matthew was you.”
“Matthewis the King’s bastard. A great person to replace me. That way he gets to keep his bastard in the house and stop my parent’s from getting suspicious. Cunning bastard.”
“But if you are innocent, why’d you write all those hate letters to Asher?” I gasped, trying to get the bottom of this.
“I fucking hate that guy’s huge ego, alright?” he gave me an annoyed look, “Believe it or not. I didn’t put my words into
action.”
“Then do vou have proofs for everything vou said? That thev
are framing you and using this war to get rid of you?” I asked
hastily, “Please Isaac, this is very important!”
“I don’t. And it’s not my job to help you find the murderer.” he
turned and walked into the shadow. “Pass my words to Asher,
will you? If he wants war, at least get out of the bed and do it
himself. Do not become somebody else’s goddamn tool.”
I left the forest and dashed back to the packhouse. I could feel
that Asher needed me.
It’s Isaac’s words against the royal family’s. But I needed to let
Asher know about Isaac’s side of the story. Between the two of
them, I was inclined to believe that Isaac was telling the truth.
There was no warning of it.
Suddenly, a sharp pain coursed through my body, causing me to tumble to the ground. A desperate long howl echoed in the
distance.
My mate just lost his parents.
