Chapter 27
Violet’s POV
I stormed out of the dining room because I couldn’t be in the
same room with Kylie anymore, not even for a single second.
I went straight to the garden. Just as I expected, Asher was there
sitting on a bench. The place where we had our first kiss was
always our secret little heaven. We could always find our inner
peace here.
“Hey.”
I went to sit with him.
He didn’t say anything to me. His elbows propped on his knees,
his shoulders hunched, and his eyes fixed on the ground.
He looked defeated, hurt. I could imagine the turmoil that he
was going through. Both of us had our lives turned upside down
once Isaac was back.
“It might not be such a terrible thing to have a twin, you know?”
I gave him a gentle nudge, trying to comfort him. “Look at
Michele and Philip. They had their own magical connection.
Sometimes I envy how close they are.”
“So you enjoyed your relationship with Kylie?” he asked in a
muffled voice.
I let out a bitter laugh. He had a fair point.
“My twin is a self–centered bitch. But maybe Isaac isn’t so bad.”
He shook his head, “I’m more worried about the practical issues here. If my mom told the truth about giving Isaac to my uncle,
how did he end up a rogue?”
I blinked blankly.
Right. How did I overlook that part? Even if Isaac didn’t get to
grow up in the Alpha’s family, he shouldn’t become a rogue.
“So you are saying that your uncle did something?”
“There is a bigger story behind all these.” Asher said darkly, “So
who knows why Isaac is back? If you ask me, he is most likely
back for revenge. And I don’t blame him. Even I find it hard to
trust anyone after the lies and betrayal that I have been
through.”
I felt a lump in my throat. Earlier when he yelled at his parents,
he said something about being lied to by everyone. I knew that
must include me. He was still holding a grudge.
“Nobody is perfect Asher. Not even our family.” I softened my
voice and said, “I made mistakes. Your parents too. We chose a
path that seemed right at the time but was proven wrong later.
But you can’t really call that betrayal. And neither of us want to
hurt you.
I reached over to take his hand. He hesitated and intertwined
his fingers with mine.
“I know,” he let out a long sigh. “It is just a lot to take in at the
moment. My father and mother seem so perfect before today.
He was the upright Alpha, and she is the Luna everyone respect.
It is hard to imagine that they would keep such a dark secret for
so many years. I mean–what else have they been hiding?”
“It must have been hard on them too,” I pointed out. “Look how
devastated your mother was earlier. She didn’t want this
either.”
His parents weren’t some monsters who would leave their child.
for no reason. The council forced them. I gave up on my mate
and that was hard enough. It must have been harder for their
parents to give up on one son.
“You still haven’t forgiven me, have you?” I shook his hand,
“You blurt out earlier about my betrayal. I know you still hate
- me. For the lies, the fight with Kylie, everything.”
He looked at me, a weak smile on his lips, “I can never hate you.”
“I have been thinking after I find out that Kylie has been lying
about her mate’s death. Why I chose to let her have you and
leave this pack for 7 years? Of course, I was forced by my
parents. They didn’t give me a choice. But deep down, I always
think that Kylie is my twin, and she would love me the same
way as I love her. She would do all these for me if our positions.
are reversed.”
“She would never. You have the most gentle soul and she has
the heart of a devil,” Asher commented harshly.
I gave him a little smile, “I have come to realize that now. Hey, I
am sorry. Again. For choosing my family over you. You are my
mate, my most important thing in life now.”
He stared at me, his eyes gleaming in the most gorgeous way.
Then he opened his arms and pulled me in. His hot lips fell on
my cheek, my earlobe, and my neck.
“I won’t let her kill me in that fight,” I coiled my arms around his
neck, making a solemn promise. “I will come back to you, alive.
And then I will become your Luna.”
“That’s my Violet,” he tightened his arms and leaned down to
kiss me. “I love you.”
I opened my mouth and welcomed in.
My heart fluttered. I felt like I was melting in his arms and that
kiss.
His love was like a magical power. Every time we kissed, I could feel my inner pain ease up. I had never felt more alive.
“You know…” he detached himself from me and whispered, “…
the seer said that your wolf isn’t dead yet. It is right there in
your body.”
“What?” I rounded my eyes in shock. I thought my wolf was
gone on the same day he and Kylie got married. “Are you
serious about this?”
“The seer’s exact words. And sometimes my wolf can feel her
existence too.” He put a hand on my chest, feeling my heartbeat.
“She is with us. She is just not ready to come out yet.”
I seized his hand, desperate to know more.
Yet just then, he straightened his back abruptly, “My dad mind
linked me. I gotta go.”
He jumped up and headed back to the packhouse. I followed
right behind him.
When we got to his parent’s suite, we found her mom dropped
on the floor, crying in a hysterical voice. His father was holding
her.
“Mom calm down!” Asher ran to her.
Her mother threw herself into his arms and wailed. She was
always an elegant woman, careful with her appearance. I had
J never seen her in such a mess.
“I want my son back!” she cried, desperate tears streaming down.
her cheeks. “Don’t leave him in the woods alone. Bring him back
OK?!”
