“Yeah, she’s a princess here, and everybody loves her. It’s a lot of
attention for a little girl.”
I smiled. I’m proud that she’s being recognized as she should be,
a true princess, no matter if she was adopted or not.
“I think I need to talk to the people who aligned with me,” I said,
my mind still racing with plans. “I need answers. I have to know
why they sided with me, and I need to get them to come
around.”
“I think it’s a bad idea, unless you’re really desperate,” she
warned, a hint of caution in her tone. “They’ll just think you
need them and pull you into their mess. You’ll be stuck doing
what they want.”
“I have no choice. I need to try,” I said, my voice firm. “I can’t let
this situation keep spiraling. I have to stop it.”
“I understand, but can’t you just try and talk to Xavier? I have a feeling that he’s not as bad as your other brother Isaac,” she
said, her voice softer. “At least he hasn’t tried to manipulate us like others did, and he hasn’t been as deceitful. There’s still hope

for him.”
“It’s not that I don’t want to build a relationship with him. I’m
just scared of what he’ll do,” I confessed, feeling frustrated. “I
don’t know if I can trust him after everything that’s happened.
I’m scared he’ll turn on me, like everyone else.“”
She sighed. “You’ve been hurt, but don’t let that stop you. If you
two can build something real, something genuine, it might be
worth it. I know it’s hard, but I think it’s worth trying.”
“What if he turns out like Isaac? He’ll make promises just to
break them later. I’m scared he’ll betray me when I least expect
it.”
Isaac ruined everything for me. He told me that he wanted to
be my real brother but look what he did to me after that? Cold-
hearted betrayal. I wouldn’t put myself through that again.
“I think the witches are my best option,” I said, my mind made
- up. “I can’t trust them fully, but at least their betrayal won’t hit
as hard as my brothers.”
“You’re just as selfish as your uncle, aren’t you?” Violet’s voice
was sharp, though I could hear her concern behind the words.
“You know what they’ve done to Xavier’s mother, but you’ll

still work with them? Have you ever thought about how that
would make Xavier feel?”
I knew the witches were untrustworthy. But they were the
only ones I could work with now. “Xavier knew I was his
brother and still let Michael kidnap me. He never gave a damn
about my feelings, so now don’t blame me for not doing the
same for him.”
Violet’s voice softened a bit. She still felt guilty for what her
brother did. “I’m not saying you should forgive him right away.
Just give him a chance. See what he wants.” Fair point, but why
should I take the first step?
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Philip stepped inside with
a grin.
“Guess who I found,” he said, his tone light but with a hint of
mystery.
“I’ll talk to you later!” I hang up the phone.
Asher’s POV
When Philip brought the witch into the room, she teased, “I’m
starting to believe you’re becoming a bit too dependent on me,
King Alexander.” The same sarcastic edge to her voice that I had

grown used to. She was right–she had become a person I couldn’t imagine being without.
“You’ve proven yourself useful. It seems I’m always in need of your help now.” I don’t trust her. But her ability is very
convenient sometimes.
“I don’t see your mate anywhere,” she remarked, narrowing her
eyes. “She still owes me something. I’m not letting her think she
can just demand anything from me before clearing her debt.”
My eyes narrowed as well. I knew Violet asked for her help
when she tried to locate me. We owed her yes, but I wasn’t
about to let anyone take advantage of the situation.
“I think we’ve settled it then,” I said firmly. “You owe us a seven-
year. If it weren’t for your generous ‘help, me and my mate
wouldn’t be separated for that long.” I made sure she could see I
was serious–there would be no turning back from this.
“I thought it’s ancient history by now,” she said.
“I don’t want to dwell on it and it’s not why I summoned you
here.” I responded, my tone sharp. Violet suggested me to build
a relationship with my brother. But I couldn’t do it at the cost of the people I have sworn to protect. So I needed the witch’s help-
