Chapter171
His eyes widened in disbelief. “How do you know all of this?”
His voice trembled with a mix of anger and shock.
“The council told me,” I said.
Now the council didn’t tell me anything. But to get back at
them, I decided to stir the water and used the power of a little
lie.
It was hard for him to accept, but I could see the seeds of doubt
starting to sprout.
Matthew’s POV
Hearing what I just said, Xavier’s eyes turned sharp.
“I don’t know who’s been lying between you and the council, but I sure as hell hope it’s not you. If I find out that you were
part of this, I’ll make sure every single person responsible for
what they put my mother through pays.” He snapped.
I stared at him in silence. He got the potential to be a decent guy, but right now, he’s blinded by rage. I can see it in his eyes.
Chapter171
“I’ll give you time to think about everything I’ve said,” I told him. “But when you need me, you know where to find me.”
He doesn’t realize just how right I am, though. The people he trusts? They’re the ones pulling the strings on everything that’s
gone wrong. My father might have been twisted, but at least he
understood the council’s evil just like himself, so he thought
they were worth supporting. Asher would never let council
manipulate him like that. So now the council was doing
everything they could to destroy him, but they were picking
the wrong fight.
What I just did would buys us some time. Now, we could talk to
the other Alphas and hopefully get them on our side. The
council was about to be so distracted, and they wouldn’t see
what’s coming. Xavier was on a rampage, and I knew he’s
gearing up to confront them. They wouldn’t be able to wriggle
out of this one.
“I want to talk to your cousin,” he suddenly said, his voice grim.
I felt a sense of relief. This was exactly what I’ve been hoping
for–getting Xavier to step up and talk things through with
Asher.
“I’ll arrange something, but I hope all of this stays between us,” I

said. I’m willing to give him a shot at redemption, but that
doesn’t mean I trust him yet.
“I don’t care what kind of game you or the council are playing,”
he hissed. “I want the truth, and now it seems that the only way
to get it is by talking to my brother. I’m willing to take that risk
because I can’t stand someone who manipulates others like this.
I hate people who play these games.”
I nodded. The council was going to hate who things were
turning out this time.
“Asher can be a really hard person to deal with, but I will let
him know about your demand,” I said.
Asher probably won’t admit it, but deep down, he wants to
meet his brother. He’s just worried about what he’ll turn into if
he opens up. And there’s a part of him that’s afraid of becoming
someone he can’t control–someone like Isaac.
“I don’t care if Asher is difficult. If he’s got any intention of
winning, then he needs me. And I’ll only work with people I
trust. I’ll work with those who tell me the truth, not those who
feed me lies.” Xavier said coldly.
I nodded and left him alone.
Chapter171
Outside of the tent, I found one of the council’s lackeys standing
guard. They were no doubt waiting for me to show up, and I
wasn’t in the mood for games.
“The council demands your presence,” the lackey said, his voice
flat.
I smiled, feigning enthusiasm, knowing exactly what this
meeting was about. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one who’d been
invited. The other Alphas were also there.
“Asher is trying to buy himself some time by putting on shields,
but we need to attack before they find a way out.“‘
Seems like they weren’t as stupid as they looked. Just when I
decided to stir things up, Xavier came striding into the tent.
“At least he’s doing something, but what the hell have we been
doing?” he demanded. And at that very moment I knew Xavier
was starting to lean towards our side.
“We all know how powerful the Celestine flower is and how
dangerous the Queen’s blood can be. Breaking the shield is
impossible,” I added coolly, pleased to see the horror on their
face.
“The Queen had already left the royal pack,” Xavier said.
Chapter 171
The room froze. I was just as shocked as everyone else. I didn’t
know Violet had gone, and the fact that Asher hadn’t said
anything to me about it made my stomach turn.
