Fated to my twin 169

Chapter169

“I won’t say it was easy. But I’m glad it was all working out.”

“I’m happy for you, brother!” I pulled me into a hug.

“On a serious note,” he continued, stepping back, “you’ve got to

tell Xavier the truth about your brother’s death.””

I frowned, not sure I’d heard him correctly. “What?”

“My dad was a very proud man,” Matthew said, his expression

darkening. “He found some sick happiness in telling me

everything that was wrong with my family.””

I had never realized how selfish my uncle actually was. “But

why tell Xavier? He’s going to hate us more for it,” I frowned.

There were so many things that didn’t make sense yet.

Did my father have another child? Or was it just the brother I

never knew about? Either way, I think I’ll have to meet Xavier

to learn about the truth, but I don’t think he’ll be willing to

share it with me.

I thought about it for a moment. “Does he trust you yet?”

Chapter 160

asked, despite knowing the answer. “I mean, I wouldn’t trust

someone who’s been so quick to betray.”

Matthew smiled faintly. “He’s actually just like you. Quiet and

broody. But we haven’t really talked.”

“Can you try talking to him. Maybe he’ll give something out.””

“I’ll try. Though I doubt he will share anything with me. He is

very discreet.”

“And I need to talk to all Alpha on his side. Do you think you

can arrange a meeting?”

If I could somehow get those Alphas to turn on him, the council

will lose all the warriors and hence lose the battle.

“I can try. But maybe this approach will put me in risk.”

I understood his concern. But right now it seemed the only path

for us to go.

Matthew’s POV

The day I found out my mother wasn’t actually my real

mother, that was the moment I stopped believing in fate or in

the idea of ever being truly happy. It didn’t matter that she

Chapter169

wasn’t my biological mom–I still wanted her love so badly. I

begged for it, time and time again, but it was like trying to catch

the wind. It was never meant to be.

Blood may be thicker than water, but that doesn’t always make

it any better. Honestly, I never gave much thought to my

father, but for some reason, I always longed for his approval.

Even though it was something I would never receive, I couldn’t

stop wishing for it. It was like this empty hole inside me that

nothing could fill.

“Do you really think revenge is going to make you happy?” That

was the kind of question you ask when you’re trying to get

someone on your side, but in this case, it was a pretty foolish.

“Isn’t that why you’re here?” He looked at me, his eyes

narrowing.

There’s something unnerving about being around Xavier–he

can be absolutely terrifying. But he hasn’t done anything really

evil since I joined. Sure, he’s attacked the pack, but that’s not the

same as the stuff I’m involved in now.

“It is, but Asher is your brother,” I responded, knowing that

trying to hurt your own brother is almost like hurting yourself.

It’s not something anyone should do lightly.

Chapter169

“Says the man who plans on tearing him apart,” he shot back

with a smirk. I could tell it was meant to throw me off, but it

didn’t work. He won’t get away with whatever he’s planning.

“I’m just trying to understand you better,” I said. I know what

he’s after, but he’s pushing too. far. Destroying a man’s house is

one thing, but ripping apart the fabric of a family? Innocent

lives will be lost for things they have no clue about. And they

certainly don’t deserve that kind of fate.

“I don’t trust you,” he said without hesitation. “I’ll let you play

your game, but don’t think for a second you can pull one over

on me. I’ve been playing this game much longer than you.”

It’s a dangerous game I’m in, but it’s a game he had been trying

to make me a part of. He didn’t understand that I know the

rules better than anyone.

“You can play with them, but don’t try to push the same agenda

on me,” I said. I could see the skepticism in his eyes. He didn’t

know what to make of me, and I wasn’t about to let him in on

all my plans.

“It would have been better if you took after your father. You

don’t even know what it’s like to be evil. You can’t possibly

understand what it means to fight against people like us,” he

Chapter169

said with a bitter edge in his voice.
