I knew he meant well, but the thought of leaving him behind
gnawed at me. “I get it, I do. But that doesn’t mean I won’t be
constantly worrying about you.”
He gave me a small, reassuring smile. “I’ll be fine. But you have
to take care of yourself. And our children.” His voice took on a
firm edge. “This isn’t just about you or me anymore. It’s about
them too. I can’t afford to have you stubborn about this, not
when it’s their well–being on the line.”
I nodded hesitantly, knowing he was right but still unable to
shake the unease settling in my chest. “I trust you when it
comes to Grace, but I just hope that her feelings don’t cloud her
judgment. What if she-”
Asher cut me off before I could spiral deeper into my worries.
“I’ll say it again.” His voice was unwavering as he shifted closer,
his hands cupping my face. “I love you. More than anything.
And I would never trade you for anybody.””
His lips crashed against mine, full of desperation and promise.
Heat flared between us, and before I knew it, he was pressing

me down into the mattress.
He helped me out of my dress as I ripped off his shirt. Within seconds we were both naked. He rolled me over and I was on
top of him.
His hands traveled across my body, making me moan. I felt my pussy warm and wet. I was ready, but he was still just
scratching the surface.
“This isn’t goodbye, is it?” I panted as he kissed my nipples. The thought of this being the last time we were together like this made my throat tighten painfully.
“Never. But I’m going to miss you,” he murmured against my skin. “Just be here with me. Right now.””
He thrust into me, filling me completely. I threw my head to the back, groaning, feeling every part of my body on fire.
I was riding him, but he was the one taking control. His large hand seized my waist, throwing me up and down. Every time he rocked his waist it gave me immense pleasure.
We fucked tirelessly till I feel asleep.
Hours later, I woke to the rustle of fabric and the quiet sound of

Asher moving around the room. He was already dressed, his
bags packed. The sight sent a fresh wave of dread crashing over
- me.
“Can’t we stay just one more day?” My voice was small as I
reached for him, needing just a little more time.
He exhaled, shaking his head as he pulled me into his arms. “We
have to save our people. And we have to protect our kids.” His
resolve was unshaken, but I could hear the strain in his voice.
I hated this. Hated that our happiness always had to take a
backseat to duty. But that was our reality, wasn’t it?
“This isn’t the end, baby,” Asher promised, pressing his forehead
against mine. “But I need to know you’re safe. I need to focus on
this fight without worrying about losing you.”
Tears burned in my eyes. “Just… be careful.”
“I can’t lose you either.”
After a lingering embrace, we finally made our way
downstairs. My brothers, my mother–they were all waiting. But
the moment we stepped into the room, Mia broke into a sprint,
launching herself at Asher.

“Daddy!” she squealed as he scooped her up, covering her face in
kisses.
“Take care of Mommy and your little brother for me, okay?” he
told her gently.
She pouted. “Why can’t we all go together?”
I swallowed past the lump in my throat. “Because Daddy has to
protect everyone,” I answered for him, smoothing her hair
back.
“Like a superhero?” she asked, her big eyes shining.
Asher nodded. “Exactly.”
Philip, who had been quiet the whole time, suddenly stepped
forward and hugged me. “I don’t know what’s going to happen,
but if anything does, I just want you to know that I truly love
you. And… I’m sorry for being an ass.”
A sad smile tugged at my lips. “I forgive you. But you better be
safe. If anything happens to you, I won’t be able to forgive
myself”
Jayden, standing beside him, crossed his arms. “Does that apply
to me too?”

I nodded as he pulled me into a tight hug. “Of course”
As I turned back to Asher, my heart clenched painfully. “I’m
sorry Michael couldn’t be here.”
Asher’s jaw tightened. “Me too. But I couldn’t take that risk”
Neither of us said the words lingering between us: What if this
is the last time?
I didn’t want to think about it. So instead, I clung to Asher for
just a moment longer, breathing him in, memorizing
everything about him.
And then, it was time to go.
