“We’ll revisit this later.” I finally said. “Right now, we have a
war to stop.”
Her shoulders relaxed slightly. And I had made a decision
internally: if Michael really did what he did to protect Violet, I
might be able to forgive him. Because Violet was the most
important person in my life. Protecting her equaled to
protecting me.
“Apparently, Alpha Xavier needs me, my brothers, and our
blood. In short, he needed the royal blood”
I frowned. “I know why he would need your blood since you
are direct descendants of the Night Shade Pack, but what’s the
blood for? What’s he working on?”
“That’s the question,” she said. “As far as I know, Alpha Xavier is
already a hybrid. No one truly understands the extent of his
power. If he needs our blood, then maybe he’s not as strong as
everyone assumed.”
I rubbed my chin. Her assumption raised even more question. “We need to find out more about his lineage. Everyone assumed

he was a hybrid, but maybe it’s more complicated than that.
And everyone who attacks always has a motive. What if his
goal isn’t just power?”
She blinked, catching up to my point. “You are saying that he is
doing all of this for some old time feud?”
I nodded. “It’s possible. All of his troubles must have a reason.
The question is, what does the council gain from backing him?”
Before we could follow that thought, a sharp voice rang
through the mindlink: “We’re under attack.”
Both Violet and I shot to our feet. The war had begun.
Violet’s POV
“Fuck no.” Asher swore under his breath. His hands clenched
into fists, eyes darting to the dark night. “We are not ready for
this. At this rate, we’re walking straight into a massacre.”
I grabbed his arm, ” Asher, they are coming at us. We need to
act.”
“I know!‘ He let out a sharp breath. “You keep everyone inside
the castle. I’ll take the warriors and handle the battlefield.”
Chapter149
Before I could respond, he pressed a quick kiss to my forehead
and was gone, disappearing into the storm of frantic shouts.
I immediately mindlinked Simon. “Get everyone inside the
castle–now. And tell everyone to be careful and take shelter.”
“On it.” His voice came through like steel, steady amidst the
madness.
I turned to Kimberly. “I need you and Simon to do a headcount
as soon as everyone’s inside. I want to make sure no one is
missing before this turns into a bloodbath.”
Kimberly nodded, already moving.
Then I mindlinked Olivia. “Hey do you know what happened?
Are you and Mia safe?”
“Yes they briefed us. We are safe for now. But things are
escalating too fast. Where are you?”
“I’m heading to the dungeon. Try to stay safe.” I strode toward
the underground cells, barely sparing a glance at the terrified
faces rushing past me.
When I reached the dungeon, the guards stiffened at my
arrival. Michael looked up from behind the bars as though he

already knew what happened.
“Release him.” I didn’t have to say his name. They knew who I
meant.
They exchanged glances, hesitant. “But the King said-”
“The King isn’t here. But the Queen is. “I snapped, raising an
eyebrow. “I won’t repeat myself again. Let him go.”
A beat of silence. Then, the keys jingled, the lock clicked, and
the door groaned open.
Michael stepped forward, squinting against the sudden flood of
light. He looked like hell–ragged, exhausted, and reeking of
damp stone.
I crossed my arms. “You look like absolute shit. And you smell
even worse.”
His lips curled into something that was almost a smirk. “I’d say
it’s good to see you, but we both know that would be a lie.”
I ignored him. “Go clean yourself up. Then we talk.” I turned to
one of the guards. “Escort him to the castle. Make sure he takes
a damn bath”
Chapter140
The guard nodded and went to take Michael. But he didn’t move. Instead, he eyed me warily. “He’s here, isn’t he?”
I gave him a quick nod, “Yeah. But we won’t let him win.” I didn’t know what would happen. But we had got to have faith.
He nodded grimly. “Keep an eye on him,” I instructed the guards before heading toward the main hall.
Just then, Asher’s voice cut through my mindlink. “We’re surrounded.”
I stopped dead in my tracks, questions whizzing in my mind.
“How do they know which path you were going to take?” I whispered. “The only explanation is they know. They planned
this.”
“We have a traitor among us.” His voice was like ice.
A sinking feeling settled in my stomach. “Who could it be.” I hesitated. “You mentioned that Matthew were talking to some of the people on Xavier’s side.”
