Chapter146
“I know,” he said softly. “I’ll do anything to fix what I’ve done but maybe it’s too late for me already.”
I studied him for a long moment. “No it’s still not too late. Prove it me that you want change. Help us through this crisis.”
He snapped his head up looking at me, “What are you talking about? What crisis?”
“First I need the truth from you. You lied about the reason behind the kidnap, didn’t you? Now tell me really what happened. No more dodging, no more half–answers.” I demanded, my voice firm.
He sighed, turning away, his jaw tight. “I already told you my reason,” he muttered, refusing to meet my eyes.
That just confirmed my suspicions.
“You’re hiding something,” I pressed. “And whatever it is, it
could be the key to saving my pack. I have too many questions, and Alpha Xavier is at the center of them. I need to understand what’s really going on.”
Chapter146
Michael turned sharply to face me, his face twisted with
something complicated. “Violet, you’re playing with fire. Dig too deep, and you’ll bring everyone you love down with you. As your brother I’m begging you.don’t go down this path.”
I squared my shoulders. “I can’t just let this go. You claimed you felt your mate bond break, but that doesn’t even make sense- you haven’t met your mate yet. How could you have felt the break? So tell me the truth.”
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, but it wasn’t amusement–it was a shield, a barrier between us. “You think you have guessed the answer but you haven’t. Stop trying now Violet.”
I matched his smirk. “I don’t think–I know. And I know you’re still lying.”
Michael sighed, rubbing his temples. “Violet, I need you to listen. If you go down this path, you’ll only make things worse. Not just for yourself, but for everyone you’re trying to protect. Is it really worth it?”
His words gave me pause. His eyes told me that he still cared about me. And maybe.maybe the things he had done was
meant to hurt us, but meant to protect me and my brothers.

My voice softened as I spoke up again, “I think we misjudged you, Michael. Maybe, maybe you were trying to protect us this whole time. But right now, we’re running out of time. Alpha Xavier just declared war on us. Philip, Jayden, even my unborn child–everyone is at risk. So I’m begging you, tell me the truth before it’s too late”
Michael clenched his fists, his body tense with hesitation. “You need to stay away from him. Both of you.”
A chill crawled down my spine. “Why? What does he want?”
His gaze darkened. “He has a long feud against you. He’s the most dangerous Alpha alive, second only to those with royal blood. And if he gets his hands on Asher’s or Matthew’s heart, if he takes their blood. everything will fall apart.”
My breath hitched. “But why? Why does he want the blood and heart?”
“It’s because he’s a hybrid. I don’t know all the details, but I just. I just wanted to protect you.”
I inhaled sharply, rage burning through me. “Protect me? You
joined forces with the very monster who wants to destroy us.
You put a gun to my head, Michael! You hurt me in ways no

one else ever could. You were supposed to be my rock after
Elena died. I trusted you! And you shattered that trust.”
“I did everything I could to keep him away from you,” he said, voice trembling. “I thought that if I played along, he’d let you
go.”
“Well, he didn’t!” I shouted. “You stuck a knife in my back and twisted it until it bled. You hurt Asher. Have you ever thought
about how that would make me feel?”
Michael’s expression hardened and he gritted, “I would betray Asher a thousand times over if it meant keeping you safe. He may be like a brother to me, but he’s also the reason you’ve suffered so much. If I had to choose between hurting him and
losing you, the choice was easy!”
His words knocked the air from my lungs. “I can’t argue with
you about this right now. This is bigger than you and I, Michael
And now. now we all have to live with the consequences.”
I exhaled, trying to steady my breath. “So. will you help us?”
Asher’s POV
The moment I stepped into the meeting room, the heavy
atmosphere hit me. Everyone was already there, their eyes

sharp, their expressions tense. Matthew had clearly filled them
in on the situation before I arrived.
“I knew that cutting off the council would come back to bite us, but it is the right thing to do.” I said, scanning the faces before
- me.
