Chapter105
I folded my arms and stared at Simon. “So they expect me to do
what, exactly?” I asked. “We’re supposed to feel sorry for her
now? After everything she’s done?”
Simon cleared his throat, looking uncomfortable. “I think they
just want you to know that she might not have much time left,
and maybe. maybe you’d want to send a doctor or something. I
guess they were hoping you’d be merciful.”
A small laugh escaped my lips, though it felt hollow. “Mercy?” I
repeated. “From me? After everything Kylie did? That’s rich.”
He didn’t respond, just stood there in silence, waiting for my
decision. I could almost see the weight of the message he carried,
how it made him uneasy.
“If Kylie can’t give us any useful information about Michael,
then I have no reason to help her,” I said, my voice firm. “If she
won’t talk, let Philip and Jayden prepare her funeral. Maybe
that will teach them not to doubt me next time.”
Simon gave me a quick nod and took half a step back, as if afraid
I might change my mind and lash out.
Chapter105
“Understood,” he said. “I’ll let them know. But, what if she does
know something?”
I tilted my head, thinking it over. A part of me hated to be this
cold, but I was done being kind to people who betrayed me. “If
she tells you anything that can help us find Michael or bring
Asher home, then come straight to me. Otherwise, I’ve said my
piece.”
Simon left, and I closed my eyes, trying to calm the chaos in my
head.
Kylie was already dead to me. Whether her body gave out
today or tomorrow made no difference. If she still refused to
give me the answers I needed, I saw no reason to waste the
pack’s resources keeping her alive.
I ran a hand through my hair before heading to the bathroom to
freshen up. My wolf stirred restlessly beneath my skin, her
anxiety pressing against me like an itch I couldn’t scratch. She
wasn’t fully settled, and I knew why. If we didn’t hear from
Asher soon, things could spiral fast.
But just as I was about to lie down again, my phone rang.
I snatched it from the bedside table, my heart pounding. The
number on the screen was one I recognized all too well-
Charlotte’s. For a split second, I was afraid of hearing more bad

news, but I answered anyway.
“Hello?” I said, forcing steadiness into my voice.
“Violet,” Charlotte’s voice came through, and it was warm and
familiar. “I’m so glad you picked up.”
Before I could respond, I heard another voice on the line, small
and trembling with excitement. “Mom?”
My chest tightened at that sweet sound. “Mia?” I whispered.
“Baby, are you okay?”
I heard her sniffle. “Why did you send me away, Mom? Don’t
you miss me?”
I exhaled. She doesn’t understand, From her perspective, she
had been taken from everything she knew, waking up in an
unfamiliar place with strangers. She had no way of knowing
that we did it to save her life.
Tears welled up in my eyes. I tried to keep them from falling,
but my voice shook when I answered. “Of course I miss you.
More than anything in the world. I just. needed you to be safe
for a little while. That’s all.”
She was quiet for a moment before whispering, “When are you
coming to get me? I don’t want that man to find me again.”
Chapter105
A sharp pang of anger burned in my chest. My hands curled
into fists at the thought of what she had already endured. She
was 5. Five! And she had already been forced to face nightmares
no child should ever have to experience.
“No one is ever going to hurt you again,” I promised, my voice
dark and steady. “Did he touch you?”
Silence. Then a hesitant reply.
“Uncle Michael wanted to hurt me. but the man who took me
away stopped him.“”
Her words twisted my heart in knots. Isaac stopped Michael? I
hadn’t expected to hear those names in that order, especially not
from my daughter.
And.Michael. He tried to hurt my daughter.
I sucked in a breath, steadying myself. The rage was suffocating,
but I couldn’t let Mia hear it in my voice.
“I’m so sorry, baby. But I swear to you, none of this will ever
happen again,” I vowed.
“Can I talk to Uncle Asher? I miss him.”
I closed my eyes. My chest tightened when I heard his name. But
Chapter105
I couldn’t let my sadness show. Mia didn’t need to know how
complicated things were.
“He is handling something important right now, but he’ll call
you soon. I promise. You like staying with Grandma Charlotte
right?”
