Julian, afraid I’d get too agitated, ignored my anger and still led me inside.
“You can hit me, you can yell at me, but you can’t bottle up your anger, okay?”
“Actually, I always knew you wouldn’t forgive me, so I didn’t plan on telling you the truth.”
“But now, I want to take a chance.”
What on earth were they talking about?
Mom had been acting so strange lately. She’d said she hated Richard, but when he came, she wasn’t particularly
resistant.
Mom simply guided me to the sofa, poured Julian a glass of water, and then went to the kitchen.
Now, it was just Julian and me in the living room. Whatever the reason, I was going to get to the bottom of this today.
“I’m giving you a chance to explain. You’d better make it good.”
Julian seemed really nervous. He gulped down the entire glass of water before finally speaking.

“The truth is, whether it was your faked death, you catching me with another woman, or that medical diagnosis… it was
all something I wanted you to see.”
“What?!”
I instinctively shot up, but Julian gently pushed me back down.
“Let me finish.”
It turned out Julian had done all of this to protect Mom and me.
It all started with my dad’s death.
His car accident wasn’t an accident at all. It was orchestrated by Mr. Davis, the head of the Davis Group. He not only wanted to kill my dad but also to eliminate Mom and me.

Maybe we were lucky to escape that time, but he hadn’t given up since.
Richard, fearing we’d be harmed, stepped in to protect us, even bringing us into the Richardson family under the guise of
marriage.
Back then, Julian and Richard were constantly strategizing how to deal with the Davis family, which was why Julian had to deliberately maintain a cold distance from me.
Until a few months ago, the Davis family became even more brazen, even resorting to foreign underworld connections
to find Mom and me.
Julian was forced to come up with a plan to drive me away.
He knew I was impulsive and reckless. If I knew the truth, I’d definitely fall into the Davis family’s trap.
That’s why he kept me in the dark.
Mom didn’t know anything at first either. It was on the day Mom and I left that Richard found her and explained
everything.
He told Mom to take me as far away as possible, and that they wouldn’t tell me the truth until the Davis family, that constant threat, was completely eliminated.
Everything was within Julian’s control. That’s why he didn’t immediately look for me after I left. And that drunken night? That was also intentional. He was afraid if I really left, I’d choose to never see him again. If I got pregnant, maybe there
would be a chance.
Only by doing all this would the Davis family truly believe we were dead. Once they let their guard down, Julian finally seized his moment to expose the Davis family’s true colors to the world.
I was curious why the Davis family was so relentless with mine.
Julian told me it was simply because my dad had discovered the Davis family’s illicit dealings: smuggling contraband, human trafficking, running underground casinos. They operated on both sides of the law.
My dad had crucial evidence, so the Davis family had no choice but to try and eliminate us all.

And it was only after we faked our deaths and disappeared that Julian finally found that evidence and brought down the Davis family.
The Davis family had many enemies. Seeing their downfall, people from all walks of life sent assassins after them.
In the end, key members of the Davis family met tragic ends while trying to escape.
Hearing all of this, I honestly couldn’t find a reason to resent Julian anymore.
“Why did you do so much for us?” I asked him.
Julian sighed.
“Silly, because I’ve always loved you. You just didn’t see it.”
“And your dad, before he died, specifically asked my dad to treat your mom well. So I had every reason to treat you well
too.”
Without realizing it, tears streamed down my face. Mom hadn’t told me the truth because she was afraid it would stress
me out and harm the baby.
As we talked, Mom had already placed the dishes on the table.
Just as we were about to eat, footsteps sounded from outside.
“Richard, come eat.”
I turned, seeing a line of cars parked outside, and Richard standing at the doorway.
“After dinner, let’s go home. The house feels empty without you two, and it’s strange.”
Richard gave a warm, hearty laugh.
That meal was incredibly delicious. Julian looked at me, his face full of love.
“Scarlett, you can finally believe I don’t have an STD now, right?”
“Didn’t you want to sleep with me? Well, now you can have all you want.”
Such a smooth talker. I just wanted to slap him upside the head!
“Just you wait! I haven’t settled the score with you for that night yet!”
