Chapter 7
After saying this, he poured me a drink.
“So, not even a ripple of emotion?“]]
I shook my head. “I’ve truly moved on.”
That night, Ryder drank himself into oblivion.
The next morning when I woke up, I saw a text message from him.
“Macy, wishing you all the best for your future.“]
I sent him a reply:
- “0
“Next time you’re passing through this little town, make sure to contact me. Dinner’s on me.”
That evening, he responded with just one word: “Deal.”
He always was perceptive.
Three months later, Jackson became increasingly flirtatious–every hotel, wedding service, and spa in town–anywhere that regularly needed flowers–he brought them all to my shop.
I only truly realized his family background wasn’t simple when the town attracted investment for a factory that could employ six thousand people.
The factory’s opening ceremony required ten thousand potted flowers.
He accepted the order without even telling me.
“Macy, praise me,” he begged like a child seeking approval, but I could only smile wryly.
This gesture was too significant. I knew what he wanted, but the one thing he wanted most was exactly what I couldn’t give.[]
“Jackson, after we complete this order, we need to talk about personal matters.”
I told him formally.]
He formally agreed.
Then came two weeks of intense preparation.
On the day of the factory’s opening ceremony, I placed the last pot of flowers and wiped the sweat from my forehead.
Jackson stood beside me, giggling with pride.]
Looking at the sea of flowers we had created with our workers, I couldn’t help but smile too.
As I smiled, a shadow blocked the sunlight. I turned to look and my heart skipped a beat.[]
The person blocking the sun was. Liam Drake…]
He stared at me with complex emotions, then rubbed his eyes in disbelief.
“Macy Quinn…“]
“You… you’re….”
Tears streamed uncontrollably down his face.
I had imagined our possible reunion countless times, but never expected it to come so soon.
Still, I delivered the lines I had rehearsed many times:
“Excuse me? Are you talking to me, sir?”
“There’s no “Macy flowers here. If you’re looking for someone named Macy, you’ll have to look elsewhere.“]
He stood there, staring at me for a long time.
“Look elsewhere… look elsewhere…”
He kept repeating until Ryder ran over and pulled him away.

Tl admit, she does look a bit like Macy.”
“But Macy wasn’t that tan, and she wasn’t that muscular either.”
He talked as he dragged Liam away.
Jackson finally looked up.]
“Macy…”
He had clearly become timid. “I… I had no idea Mr. Drake was really your ex–husband… Mr. Holt mentioned it on Instagram, but I thought he was joking…”
I laughed awkwardly. “What else did Ryder tell you?“]
He nervously replied, “He said… you were injured and can’t have children…“]
“No, no–I kept asking him about it for three months before he finally told me.”
He hurriedly explained, becoming increasingly flustered.]
After a long pause, he raised his head.
“Macy, I… I don’t really like kids anyway…”
mean… I…”
He rolled up his sleeve to reveal a subtle implant under his skin.
“Words are cheap, so I got a male contraceptive implant.“[]
“This is the longest–lasting one–works for seven years.“]]
“After seven years, I’ll get another one.”
“I’ll keep getting them my whole life if that’s what you want.”
Looking at his blushing face, with the sunlight behind him, I suddenly felt that perhaps I could start a new life after all.
