Chapter 2
For the next two weeks, Liam canceled all his work and stayed in the hospital room.
He was incredibly attentive, taking care of my every need.[]
When I was discharged, he brought me home and prepared a footbath with rose petals, carefully washing my feet.[]
I almost believed I had imagined those terrible words.[]
“Babe, I need to discuss something with you,” he said, wiping sweat from his forehead with that warm smile I once adored.]
“The three people who attacked you reached out about dropping the charges.“]
“They mistook you for someone else–they thought you were the other woman, which is why they were so brutal.“[]
“Since it was all a misunderstanding, they want to compensate you and have you sign a non–prosecution agreement.“]]
“How much do you think would be fair?“)]
I watched him massaging my toes and suddenly felt my feet go cold. My heart went just as cold.
Lgently pulled my foot away, staring at him icily.
He rushed to explain: “Those three women are in a bad situation. Without your agreement, they’ll go to prison… And you’ve recovered without any major issues…”
He produced an already prepared document and pushed it toward me.[]
The name “Brianna Pierce” jumped out from the page like a slap to the face.
I held my breath for a long time before finally letting out a bitter laugh.
Once, when I was learning to ride a bike, I accidentally crashed into someone who slapped me in anger. Liam had been furious. He and his friends surrounded the person, forced them to kneel and beg for forgiveness, pay compensation and even then, Liam broke their arm.]
That’s how much he loved me then, keeping me safe behind him, treating anyone who hurt me as his enemy.[]
But now he wanted me to forgive Brianna. Even though she killed my baby and took away my chance to ever be a mother.[]
Liam, you’ve changed completely.
“I won’t sign it,” I said, those four words taking all my strength.[]
He looked stunned, then his face darkened.[]
“I’m just trying to be fair here. They’re young, and sometimes you need to show mercy….“]
“Your fairness‘ isn’t on my side!” I glared at him and finally exploded with the anger I’d been holding back for so long.[]
He clenched his fist, gritting his teeth. After a moment, he relaxed again.[]
“Maybe I’m not handling this right, trying to be the middleman. It’s making you think I’m siding with them.“]
“No problem. I’ll call them over now.”
To my shock, he actually made the call. And then that familiar face walked into my home.[]
“Brianna…” I hissed, glaring at her with hatred. All I could see was her face, twisted with rage as her friends held me down while she wielded a rusty metal bar.
“Macy…” she whimpered, dropping to her knees. Instantly, tears streamed down her face.[]
“I mistook you for someone else. I’m so sorry you got hurt like this…”
me…]
“Please, I’m begging you to forgive me…
She knocked her head against the floor several times, blood splattering from her forehead.]
“See? She’s truly sorry. Let’s just sign the agreement. Otherwise people will think we’re being vindictive.“]
Liam chimed in from the sidelines. So pitiful, so reasonable–what an act.]
But her earrings were the exact style Liam had asked me to recommend, supposedly for Ryder’s girlfriend []
Her ring matched Liam’s perfectly

The fresh kiss marks on her neck smiled smugly at me, making me jealous.]
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Liam, do you know I spent two weeks trying to convince myself to forgive you? Really, I was almost ready to forget what I overheard between you and Ryder.]]
If you had let me send her to jail, let her face the consequences of her actions, I could have convinced myself to keep loving you. But why did you have to bring her here, right in front of me?]
“Macy, just sign it…” Liam urged.[]
I opened my eyes to see Brianna clutching his pant leg, leaning against him. He stood tall and strong beside her.[]
In that moment, she became who I once was–the woman clinging to his clothes, waiting for him to solve all my problems.
The tree I used to lean on is truly dead now…]
I bit my lip, holding back tears, and slowly shook my head.]
“I won’t forgive her.“]]
Liam frowned. “Babe, don’t be unreasonable…”
Before he could continue, Brianna suddenly grabbed a knife from the table.
pay with my life then!” she cried, slashing her own hand. Blood gushed from the wound.[]
