Chapter 4
I didn’t say a word or make a move.[]
I just stood there watching Julian fuss over Mia and her daughter like I was watching some sad clown show.[]
When she got no response, Mia’s face got all awkward. She quickly took Lily from Julian’s arms.[]
“Julian, maybe Lily and I should just go back to our place. This is weird,” she said, eyeing me.]
Julian caught her nervous look and whipped around to snap at me.[]
“Elena, what the hell is your problem? Mia was worried about you being alone this late in your pregnancy, and she offered to help take care of you. Why are you standing there like a zombie? Who are you trying to make feel bad?“]
His words made me laugh out loud, tears filling my eyes.[]
For my own good? He’d been in the apartment for minutes and hadn’t even noticed my stomach was flat.
For my own good? He was letting someone who was wrecking our marriage move into our bedroom.
If this was his idea of love, I’d rather have none.
Julian’s face hardened as he watched me laugh like I was losing it. He stepped up and grabbed my shoulder.
“Elena, enough with the drama. You’re being totally unreasonable and you’re making me look bad.“[]
“Why should I care if you look bad? Who are you to me anyway?“]
I pushed him away and wiped my tears.
Julian was pissed at my reaction. After throwing an awkward look at Mia, he leaned in close and whispered harshly.[]
“I’m your husband and the father of your baby. Once Lily gets better, I’ll send them away, and then we’ll get a nanny to help with you and the baby…”
Julian suddenly stopped talking.
His hand touched my stomach, and he froze, staring at me like he couldn’t believe it.]
After a long, shocked silence, he felt my belly again, desperately hoping he was wrong.
When he felt the same flatness, his voice shook. “Where’s the baby? Why is your stomach flat? Did you…that day…?“)
Mia overheard Julian freaking out and gasped, covering her mouth.[]
“Oh my God, Elena! I know you were upset that Julian wasn’t with you during the car accidènt, but you couldn’t have gotten rid of the baby! Julian’s been dreaming about this baby forever…”
Julian glared at me, his eyes red with a hatred I’d never seen before.
“Are you crazy, Elena? If I wasn’t trying to make things right for what you did, I wouldn’t be running back and forth between you two. And now you’ve gotten rid of my kid? That’s so messed up.”
Julian’s accusations just made me laugh harder.[]
He wouldn’t believe what Neil and I told him, but Mia’s made–up stories became his ammo against me.
Whatever little love I still had for him completely vanished.]
I slapped the divorce papers right in front of him.]
“You only hear what you want to hear, Julian. I can’t change that. So, let’s just get divorced.“]
I didn’t wait for him to answer. I grabbed my suitcase and walked out.]
As the door closed behind me, I heard Mia trying to console him.[]
“Julian, no matter who’s right or wrong, it’s late and not safe. Maybe you should go bring Elena back.”
“Let her go. I want to see just how tough her backbone is. She even doesn’t have her family to back her up. I don’t believe she has the guts to get a divorce…”
I gave a cold smirk and headed straight for the elevator.
Tonce thought he was my salvation. I’d even told him about my orphan childhood, bouncing between foster homes and depending on strangers for meals.]
Never thought he’d use that against me.]]
How foolish I wasted eight years of my life on this fucking jerk!]
