Chapter5
I left in the Bentley. Two hours later, Nathan Whitmore finally finished with Lillian Cross.
To be precise, today marked one hundred days since he first hooked up with her.
Lillian was like some insatiable succubus, clinging to him day and night.
At first, Nathan had found her wildness intoxicating, but maybe he’d had her too many times-
because suddenly, he was bored.
And for some reason, he started thinking about how I used to blush every time he touched me.
Ever since he brought Lillian into the house as our “live–in housekeeper,” he hadn’t laid a finger
on me.
There was still a photo on his desk–one from when we first got together. Back then, he couldn’t keep his hands off me.
I’d be sore and aching the next day from his passion, yet I still went out and worked brutal side jobs to raise funds for his startup.
Maybe guilt finally crept into Nathan’s heart.
He called over his assistant.
*Tell my
my wife I’ll be home for dinner tonight. I’ll go with her to visit her mother in the morning.”
“And transfer another ten percent of my shares into her name. She’s been in a bad mood–just a little gift to cheer her up.”
Then he glanced at Lillian and added,
“You’re not coming back with me. I’ve already wired you more than enough money. You don’t need to work as a housekeeper anymore. Go back to your dorm or rent a place–whatever you want.”
Jealousy flashed in Lillian’s eyes the second she heard he was giving me shares.
She pouted, trying to sound pitiful.
“But Nathan… you promised to spend our 100–day anniversary with me tonight…”
Nathan had never liked being contradicted–especially once he made up his mind.

Lillian’s usual obedience had once charmed him, but now, she was starting to feel clingy.
“We’ll celebrate tomorrow. It’s decided.”
When he looked up and saw the assistant still standing there awkwardly, his voice turned cold.
“What are you waiting for? Didn’t you hear me?”
The assistant hesitated, then held out two documents.
“Mr. Whitmore… I tried calling Mrs. Whitmore earlier, but she’s blocked my number.”
“Also, you just signed the divorce agreement… and approved her resignation papers. She probably
doesn’t want to see you right now.”
“What the hell are you talking about? I never-”
Nathan stopped mid–sentence as his eyes scanned the documents.
He couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“She… this isn’t a real estate purchase contract? She… she left the company? She wants to leave
me?”
All those years I stood by him, loyal and sensible, had convinced Nathan that no matter how much
he strayed, I’d never actually leave.
But now… everything was spiraling out of his control.
No. He had to find me and get answers.
Fine–he’d just kick Lillian out. He was done with her anyway.
Then he’d do what always worked: get on his knees, beg, apologize until I softened.
I always forgave him.
Grabbing his coat, he rushed out.
Lillian tried to stop him. “Nathan:
“Get out of my way!” he snapped, not even sparing her a glance.
But when he got back to the house, I was already gone.

Panic set in. He turned around and drove straight to Riverstone Wellness Center.
But not only was I missing–so was my mother.
Nathan grabbed Nurse Margaret by the arm, his voice trembling with fury.
“Where’s Eleanor Sinclair? Who gave you permission to move her? If anything happens to her–if my wife gets hurt–I’ll make sure this entire facility is shut down!”
That nurse–Margaret–had a son who was sick, and she couldn’t afford the surgery. I’d helped her pay for it, no strings attached.
She had always felt guilty about not protecting my mom better. But now, something inside her snapped.
She shoved Nathan’s hand off and shot him a deadly glare.
“Oh, now you remember you have a wife? Now you care about her mother? Where were you before?!”
“You wanna kill me? Go ahead! My son still has his father. But I owe Ms. Sinclair my life–if I don’t speak up, I’ll never sleep another night in peace!”
“You think money fixes everything? That having a few extra zeros gives you the right to cheat and let your mistress humiliate Ms. Sinclair until she tried to kill herself?! Are you happy now?!”
