They mocked her.
They filmed her.
“Old hag, we got everything on video. What do you think people will say when we release it?”
“Mr. Whitmore only cares about Lillian now. He let her kill your granddaughter. He made your daughter hand over the evidence.‘
“If you don’t want Ava to be ruined, you better convince her to divorce him. Walk away with
nothing. Otherwise, we’ll destroy both of you online. Trust me. You’ll never survive it.”
My mother sat in silence all night.

Then, turned on the microwave.
She looked up at the hidden camera, and smiled.
“Ava… I’ve never done anything wrong. I hate bullies. But I know Nathan’s using me to threaten
you. I don’t care what people say about me, but I won’t drag you down with me.”
“I’m going to join Bella now. Take care of yourself. Stay away from that monster. I’m sorry, honey. I
love you.”
I couldn’t watch anymore.
I collapsed beside her body and wept.
Then my phone rang.
A stranger’s voice: “Hi… I found your daughter’s smartwatch. It was by the front steps of the Tower.
Can you come pick it up?”
My heart raced.
Bella’s smartwatch–it had a recording function. I gave it to her for her birthday. She never took it
off.
Had she left me proof?
I took Mom’s body to the chapel, then rushed to Capital Tower.

The moment I accessed the files, my hands shook. Hundreds of videos.
Lillian abusing Bella. Including footage from the day she died.
My grief turned to rage.
I called the one person who could help.
“Gabriel Monroe,” I said. “You once told me your company would always have a place for me if I
ever needed it. Does that offer still stand?”
His voice was calm, warm, a hint of hope within it. “Of course. I’m actually back in the country on
business. Name your terms.”
“Good, I need a favor.”
After we hung up, I gathered the divorce agreement and resignation letter.
At Whitmore Enterprises, I passed the office lounge and overheard Lillian on the phone, smug.
“Great job with the footage. I’ll send your payment.”
“Riverstone just called. The old bitch offed herself. She was tough, I’ll give her that. But thinking
about Ava bawling her eyes out? That made my day.
“Nathan would’ve dumped her long ago if she hadn’t clung to that ‘Mrs. Whitmore‘ title. She and
her brat are gone now. Good riddance. One hag gone to serve the other in hell.”
I stormed in and slapped her.
Nathan rushed in and shoved me.
I fell onto the cactus behind the bar counter–bloodied thorns embedded in my skin.
“Are you insane, Ava?!”
“Why did she hit me, Nathan?” Lillian sobbed. “Is it because you were going to celebrate our 100th day together tonight?”
“Maybe she thinks I’m beneath her because I was your housekeeper. Should I just leave and go back
to school?”
Nathan pulled her close and glared at me. “When did you become so shallow, Ava?”

“Lillian’s an orphan. She’s never known what it’s like to be loved. I gave you years–wasn’t that enough? And now you’re jealous over this?”
I laughed bitterly.
“Shallow? Do you even know what happened? My mother is dead–killed byLillian that bitch’s men!”
Smack.
Blood filled my mouth.
“I told you,” Nathan hissed. “Don’t call her that.”
“You blamed Bella’s death on her, and now your mother too? How cruel can you be?”
He believed everything Lillian said. There was nothing left to argue.
“Fine,” I said. “Here. These are my resignation and divorce papers. Sign them and I’ll disappear.”
He didn’t even glance at them before tossing them in my face.
“Whatever. I know you’re upset about Bella. I’ll sign anything. But humiliate Lillian again, and I swear your daughter’s ashes might just go missing.”
I trembled.
The man I once loved had rotted into something vile.
“Nathan Whitmore, you’re a monster.”
I fell to my knees before Lillian.
“I’m sorry for everything today. It was my fault.”
She grabbed my head and smashed it against the floor.
“That’s not how you apologize,” she sneered. “Let me teach you.”
Blood streamed down my face.
Nathan flinched. But Lillian collapsed into his arms, pouting.
“Is my face okay, Nathan? Did she ruin it? Girls only have one face… How could she hit me so hard?”

He said nothing.
Then he walked her back into his office.
Behind the door, laughter and moans.
I stumbled out of the building, ignoring the stares.
Outside, a black Bentley stretch limo waited.
A dozen men in tailored suits stood beside it.A silent army.
They bowed in unison.
“Ms. Sinclair, the Monroe legal team is at your service.”
