Chapter 9
His heart sank as he realized something was off. “What’s going on?”
Terrified, the manager stuttered, “M–Mr. Phelan, photos of you pulling a woman close at a restaurant have been leaked. Now, everyone online is calling you a cheater, and Voyage Group’s stock is dropping. What should we do?”
Even the experienced manager was thrown off by the unexpected situation.
Caleb, a cheater?
No way! Everyone knew how much he loved Phalicia.
Frowning, Caleb said after pondering for a while, “Lower the heat first. I’ll handle the clarification myself.”
Then he hung up decisively and then swerved into a sudden U–turn.
Five minutes later, he parked the car at the doorstep.
Phalicia opened the door as soon as he got out of the car.
She trotted toward him. “Caleb, there are a bunch of photos of you and Ms. Sandoval online.”
He grabbed her by the arm and looked around, stepping inside after making sure no one was around.
After closing the door, he pressed on her shoulders and said sincerely, “Licia, there’s nothing between Shevonne and me. I swear.”

She pushed him away, sat on the sofa, and picked up her phone.
A trace of irritation flashed in his eyes as he sat beside her. “Shevonne is the one who keeps pestering me. She’s just an ex and means nothing to me. Licia, could you clear things up with me? I…”
“Take a look at this and see if it’s OK,” Phalicia interrupted him while showing him the phone.
It was a dashcam recording.
In the recording, they walked into the restaurant, fingers laced together, after he parked the car.
After a pause, he asked, “This is?”
“Post it online. Tell everyone that we were on a date, and you bumped into an old acquaintance and chatted with her a bit. You’ve never cheated,” Phalicia said casually.
“I believe this will solve everything.”
Caleb’s tense body relaxed.
Phalicia was so cooperative, and he didn’t have to coax her at all–this was truly surprising.
But he knew her.
Others might not know, but she did. She knew Shevonne was his ex- girlfriend.
Of course, she was upset when she saw him tangle up with Shevonne at the restaurant entrance.
He stepped forward and said gently while watching her send the video to the PR manager, “Licia, you don’t have to pretend anything. You can

make a scene and admit you’re jealous. It’s fine, really.”
A trace of coldness flashed in Phalicia’s eyes.
But it vanished quickly, and she smiled sweetly, “I’m not jealous or upset.”
Caleb frowned. “For real?”
Jealousy and possessiveness both came from love.

Phalicia loved him with all her heart. How could she not be jealous of Shevonne?
“Yes. I get it that there’s some unfinished business between you and her. After all, you were in love before.”
She poured him a glass of water. “I’m fine. Chill.”
He took the glass and then put it down, feeling a bit annoyed.
He could tell she was telling the truth–this whole thing with Shevonne
didn’t bother her at all.
In the next second, she said, “Since the reporters have been staking out our doorstep these days, I’m thinking about moving out for a bit.”
The door to Phalicia’s apartment was opened right after she finished unpacking.
Carlene stood at the door with takeout in hand.
Phalicia had to bite the tip of her tongue to maintain calmness.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“What do you mean? Your place is as good as mine. I always come and go
