Chapter31
Phalicia paused for a moment.
She looked at Caleb acting like nothing happened, and her heart sank.
Even though she never noticed what Caleb did to the Lombard family in those three years, Caleb never relaxed for a moment and kept an eye on their every move all the time.
She went to prison for just a few hours, and Caleb already knew.
Either he had people in the prison, or he had been sending people to watch my brother.
Hatred crawled down my spine and into all my limbs and bones.
Phalicia tapped Caleb’s palm with her fingertip: “Yeah, I went to see my brother.”
“Why did you suddenly go see him? Did something happen over there?” Caleb showed just the right amount of concern.
Phalicia looked sad, her voice shaking, “I had a dream yesterday. I dreamed my brother’s face was covered in blood. He asked me why I didn’t go see him. I woke up feeling uneasy, so I wanted to check if something happened to him.”
“And then?” Caleb tensed up. “Did something really happen to Shelt? Is it
serious?”
Phalicia paused and met his worried eyes.

She could only say these five words.
“Brother’s fine, it’s just…” Phalicia pressed her lips together, like she had something she couldn’t say.
Caleb said right away, “Just say it, Licia. If I can help, I will.”
Phalicia looked at him, her eyes full of tears, “I wanted to get my brother a lighter sentence so he could get out sooner. That way our family could be together again. Caleb, can you help me find a lawyer?”
Caleb’s expression changed a little, but he quickly calmed down and reached out to pinch her cheek.
“Idiot, of course I could help you, but you know, I already asked a lot of lawyers to help your brother get a lighter sentence. If I hired more lawyers, it might not turn out well.. You needed to be prepared for that.
Phalicia lowered her eyes, hiding her feelings: “It’s okay, just do your
best.”
་་
Caleb let out a small sigh of relief, and his guard was gone in an instant.
He said, Why did Phalicia suddenly go to prison? Turns out it was for a dream. She just acted on a whim.
Caleb didn’t care and waited for James Kane to come and sign the profit- sharing agreement with Phalicia.
With the benefits in hand, Phalicia stopped looking angry and joked
around with Caleb.
It wasn’t until there was a ding on the computer screen and a new email showed up.
Phalicia just clicked it.

It was sent by someone named H.T.
“Have you thought it through?”
Phalicia smiled.
She didn’t get a chance to call Horacio, and he came to find her first.
Phalicia held the business card and added Horacio as a friend using the phone number.
She pressed the voice button and spoke seriously but gently, “I’ll send you the money tomorrow, Mr. Thatcher. I’m officially hiring you to look into my brother’s case. I hope you give me good results. Looking forward to working with you.”
Horacio replied with an OK emoji after a few minutes.
“Would it kill this guy to say one more word.”
Phalicia muttered under her breath, picked up her coffee cup and walked out, but ran into Carlene going into the president’s private elevator.
Did Caleb look for Carlene?
It was such a waste not to go eavesdrop at that moment.
Phalicia handed the coffee cup to Susanna, “Take this to my office for
me.”
She went upstairs. The closer she got to the president’s office, the clearer the voices became.
“Why did you give her the bonus? And even gave her twenty percent! I was also a pillar of the Jewelry Department, so why didn’t you give me ten percent?”

Caleb spoke in a low voice, “Don’t make a fuss. I was just trying to keep her happy so she’d work harder for the Jewelry Department. Besides, she caught me spending the night with Shevonne. Do you think that’s easy to explain?”
Carlene took a deep breath and paced back and forth in front of the desk. No matter how she thought about it, she just couldn’t accept it.
She turned around and held the corner of the table: “After kicking Phalicia out of the company, give me this twenty percent of the bonus, okay?”
Caleb’s eyes darkened. He leaned back in the leather chair and said casually, “You’ve got quite an appetite. If I give you twenty percent, can you guarantee to keep up the profits Phalicia made?”
“Sure I could! I told you before, I could design those Phalicia pieces too, I just didn’t feel like using my brain.” Carlene said with a dismissive pout.
