Chapter 29
Without even lifting her eyelids, she let out a cold snort upon seeing Phalicia.
“You have some guts, don’t you? You actually slapped Caleb’s face so hard that it’s swollen. Did you even know there was a routine meeting at the company today? How’s he supposed to show up like this?!”
By the last sentence, her voice had risen in pitch, and she flung a slightly withered hydrangea at Phalicia.
The petals fluttered down, some landing on Phalicia’s clothes.
Her eyes turned cold as she calmly brushed off the petals and picked up the hydrangea.
“So, when Caleb slept with another woman behind my back, I should swallow it and pretend I didn’t know?”
Florence slapped her hand down on the table. “Get your facts straight! Nothing happened between them! Ms. Sandoval was drunk and had nowhere to go, so Caleb took her in for the night. That’s why you slapped him?!”
Phalicia walked over to the trash can by the table, but paused when she heard those words.
She gave a soft chuckle. “Even if nothing happened, shouldn’t I be upset that my husband brought his ex home for the night without telling me? Caleb hasn’t said anything, so why did you call me here?”
In a sudden move, she stuck the hydrangea into the vase.

Just like that, the harmony of the entire arrangement was ruined.

Florence took a deep breath. “You don’t get it, do you? It’s wrong to slap someone! Well then, I’ll give you a taste of how much Caleb hurts!”
She snapped at Benjamin and the maids, “Hold her down!”
Phalicia’s gaze flicked toward the window, where the flashy Koenigsegg had just pulled up.
Perfect timing.
Benjamin and the maids closed in and grabbed Phalicia.
In the past, she had never put up a fight, so they held her pretty loosely.
Florence walked over, a fierce glint in her eyes as she raised her hand to slap Phalicia.
Phalicia swiftly grabbed Benjamin, pulling him in front of her as she stepped back.
Smack!
Benjamin took the full force of the slap, and before he could even register what had happened, he felt a hard shove to his lower back.
He stumbled uncontrollably and fell straight toward Florence.
“Ah!”
A scream pierced the air as both of them tumbled to the ground.
Caleb burst in, shouting, “Don’t hurt Licia!”
As the words left his mouth, he froze.
Phalicia stood calmly to the side with the stunned maids while the portly

Benjamin was sprawled over Florence on the floor.
Florence’s eyes rolled back. When she turned her head and saw the beloved bracelet she had worn for decades shattered on the floor, she gasped, but failed to catch her breath and fainted.
Benjamin scrambled to his feet in a panic.
“Mom!”
Caleb burst in, pulling Florence into his arms and pinching her philtrum to revive her.
Florence kicked her legs weakly and slowly came to. She fixed a venomous, icy glare on Phalicia, who stood behind the maids.
“It was her!”
Her hand trembled as she lifted it, pointing straight at Phalicia. “It was
Phalicia!”
Caleb frowned, the slap marks still vivid on his face, as he turned to look at Phalicia.
Phalicia put on a look of bewilderment and said, “Madam Phelan tried to slap me. I moved out of the way, and somehow Benjamin ended up on top of her.”
“That’s not true!” Benjamin interjected, clutching his face. “She dodged and pushed me! That was why I toppled onto Madam Phelan!”
Phalicia glanced at him coolly. “Do you have any proof? Or did anyone see me push you?”
The maids looked at each other, unsure of what to say.
It had all happened so fast, and none of them had noticed.

Benjamin was still trying to argue. “But…”
Phalicia cut him off, her face turning cold. “You can’t pin everything on me because you broke Madam Phelan’s bracelet. Madam Phelan, you came at me with all this violence. I’ve been working my butt off for the Voyage Group. Am I supposed to not get angry when I saw another woman in my husband’s house?”
Her voice suddenly trembled with emotion, her eyes welling up. “Fine, Madam Phelan, since you hate me so much and think everything I do is wrong, I’ll never come here again!”
Caleb felt a pang in his chest. He let go of Florence and stood up.
“Licia!”
But Phalicia was already striding away, not giving him a chance to catch
- up.
She swept in and out in less than ten minutes, turning the Phelan family upside down and wrecking the whole act Caleb and Florence had staged.
After getting into the car, she closed her eyes and let out a long breath.
She finally got to let off some steam.
It felt good.
At the sound of footsteps, she opened her eyes, fastened her seatbelt, and rolled down the window just as Caleb caught up.
“If you think getting slapped was unfair and told your mom about it, then there’s no point in talking. Let’s take some time apart to calm down.”
With that, she stepped on the gas and sped away.
Caleb’s face darkened, veins bulging at his temples.

It felt terrible not being able to stick to the plan.
In the past three years, Phalicia had never lost her temper like this. Whenever she was upset, a little soothing was enough to calm her.
It looked like Shevonne really got under her skin.
On the bright side, her anger meant she cared, and she couldn’t let him
- go.
Caleb thought for a moment, then pulled out his phone and made a call.
“Don’t bother me with anything about Shevonne these next few days.
“Yeah, give it a few days while I smooth things over here.”
He hung up and headed back to the office.
Taking the executive elevator straight to the Jewelry Department, Caleb had just stepped out when a call came in.
He answered without thinking. “What’s up?”
“The prison just sent word that Ms. Lombard visited her brother this morning.”
