Caleb’s palms were a bit sweaty. He pulled out his phone and called the Finance Department, flashing a slightly ingratiating, gentle smile.
“Alright, the money in the account is now yours to use freely.”
Phalicia smiled, “Good. Gotta go.”
Caleb breathed a silent sigh of relief. “Catch you at the company later. I’ll swing by at noon, and we’ll grab lunch together.”
Phalicia responded calmly, “I’ve got some errands to run this afternoon, so I might not be at the office.”
“No worries, let’s do dinner instead,” Caleb said as he walked her to the
door.
Just then, the door upstairs creaked open.
Both of them froze.
Shevonne, still groggy from sleep, rubbed her forehead and yawned as she stepped out. “Cal.”
Caleb’s face turned grim.
Shevonne was stunned when she saw Caleb and Phalicia behind him, then quickly forced an awkward, guilty smile and shook her head in a panic.
“Ms. Lombard, please don’t get the wrong idea! Nothing happened
between us!”

Phalicia could tell right away that Shevonne was doing it on purpose.
No mistress in her right mind would dare to come out and stir trouble when she knew the rightful one was outside.
Caleb must’ve allowed it.
It just so happened that Phalicia had just come back from visiting her brother in prison, and she needed to vent her rage.

So she fixed her icy gaze on Caleb and slapped him right across the face.
Caleb’s head turned to the side from the force.
Ignoring Shevonne’s gasp, Phalicia raised her hand again and slapped
Caleb’s other cheek.
She didn’t hold back. After the hit, her hand trembled with pain.
She clenched her fist, her face showing a perfectly measured mix of pain and sorrow. “Caleb, I gave myself to you on our wedding night, full of love and anticipation. And this is what you do? Sneaking around with your ex behind my back? You’ve gone too far!”
With that, she yanked the door open and stormed out.
Behind her, Caleb stood still, but Shevonne was shouting his name as she
raced downstairs.
He seemed to be stunned from the slaps.
A mocking smile crossed Phalicia’s face as she floored the gas and decisively left that disgusting place.
Back at the Voyage Group, she immediately took her savings account to Triumph Law Firm.

It hadn’t even been three days yet, but she was already growing impatient.
After careful consideration, she knew there was no better partner than Triumph Law Firm.
First, Triumph Law Firm was a competitor to Monarch Law Firm, which Caleb supported.
Second, she had checked, and no lawyer from Triumph Law Firm had ever been involved in any of the Lombard family’s cases or been bought off by Caleb.
And lastly, though Horacio was hard to reach, he was highly skilled and deeply professional. If they could work together, he’d be all about efficiency, focused solely on results without gossiping about clients.
So, he was the ideal person to help.clear Shelton’s name.
Thinking about Shelton in prison, Phalicia felt a lump in her throat.
She hurried to Triumph Law Firm, anxious as hell.
But when she got there, the receptionist told her Horacio and the other lawyers were out getting evidence.
She grabbed Horacio’s card and left. Just as she stepped outside, she got an email.
She clicked on the file from Salvatore.
It was a whole set of limited–edition winter sketches.
The style was definitely hers, but the designs were a bit rough around the edges. Salvatore must’ve pieced them together from old rejected drafts.
Salvatore called. “Phalicia, are those designs any good?”
