Chapter 26
She even felt that Phalicia didn’t just dislike her or look down on her. She hated her!
Carlene slammed the coffee down, furious. “Are you ever gonna stop? Phalicia, what exactly did I do that you have to come at me like this? I was trying to tell you to stop putting on airs and be a proper couple with Caleb. Is that really something to get so mad about?”
“Yes, I’m very mad. And I don’t feel like forgiving you right now. Phalicia raised an eyebrow. “So, can you get out of here? I gotta talk to
Caleb alone.”
For the sake of revenge, she still had to keep up the act with Caleb, biding her time and playing her part.
But Carlene? She was nothing.
A nobody Phalicia had made famous, who then turned around and stabbed her family in the back. Someone like that wasn’t worth even a second of civility.
Carlene’s lips trembled with rage, and she let out a bitter laugh. “Fine. I’ve been nothing but nice to you, and for one wrong word, this is how you treat me? Phalicia, don’t say I didn’t warn you!”
Blind with rage, she stormed off.
But just as the door slammed shut behind her, her face turned ghostly pale.
Oh no.

Caleb and Shevonne were still upstairs.
Panicked, Carlene spun around and rushed back to knock on the door.
But no one answered.
She scrambled for her phone and called Caleb, then hurried around to the back window, grabbed a stone, and started pounding on it.
The noise finally woke Caleb upstairs.
He rose from the couch and glanced at Shevonne, who was still sound asleep in the bed. His eyes flickered.
Last night, he was at the bar and saw Shevonne, drunk and all over some stranger.
With no other choice, he had to bring her home and take care of her while
she was out of it.
He was like a man possessed, constantly asking her why she had left all those years ago, and only fell asleep at dawn.
Now, Caleb pinched the bridge of his nose, regretful that he had let his emotions get the better of him. He got up and answered the phone. “Hello?”
“Phalicia is at your place!”
Those words made his heart race and jolted him wide awake.
At the same moment, there was a knock on the door.
“Caleb, are you in there?”
Caleb went rigid. Without a second thought, he grabbed a blanket and threw it over Shevonne, then balled up her jacket and shoved it under the

Outside the door, Phalicia caught the faint sounds inside and narrowed her eyes.
“Caleb? I can hear you in there. Why aren’t you answering me? I’m coming in.”

The next second, the door swung open.
The pungent scent of alcohol, laced with a woman’s perfume, hit Phalicia.
She pinched her nose and stepped back. “What’s that smell in your room?”
Caleb’s face tensed as he caught a whiff of the air. “Guess I drank too much last night. The place smells like a dump, and it’s total chaos in there. You’d better stay out. Let’s talk downstairs.”
He tugged Phalicia away and shut the door behind them.
She hadn’t even gotten a peek inside before he dragged her downstairs.
“Didn’t you go to sort out that fight your friends got into yesterday? How did you end up drunk? The Finance Department said I need a security key for the account handover. I called you, but you didn’t pick up.”
“I didn’t hear it.”
